Worth staying a night just to see the original parts of the building and ruins out the back. Fascinating. The interior decoration is exceptionally clever as they have used minimalist furniture in the rooms and breakfast room with browns and creams so you still can feel how it was as a monastery. I felt I had to whisper in the... More

We stayed in this charming property for one night on June 8. The staff at the reception were friendly and efficient. Checking in was done quickly. We were shown to our rooms in no time and our luggage arrived almost at the same time. Our room, (not identified by room number but by friar's names) Friar Gabrielle, was on the... More

Stayed for 1 week while walking in the surrounding area. The hotel building is converted from an anciant monastery and has a number of very attractive areas including a small cloistered courtyard and a bar which used to be the chapel. Every room has a magnificent view across a valley to the Serra da Estrela national park. All staff were... More

Just spent a week as the base of an organised walking holiday. Friendly, good English and helpful staff. Rooms large with lovely view over hills. Simple furnishings but twin beds rather narrow. Well functioning air conditioning. Lovely pool to cool off in but not designed for exercise. Meals freshly cooked and good. Could do with updating fresh fruit on the... More

A delightful place to rest and relax, high in the hills near Belmonte. Very friendly staff. This is not a luxury hotel In the American sense of the world, as bedrooms are simply furnished In keeping with the fact this was originally a convent. We enjoyed our stay here by much, and the food was excellent. The chef loves mushrooms!

We stayed at this Great Pousada for one night. The room was adequately furnished but not luxurious. It could use some decorating. It is a nice size room. The building is a rebuilt old monastery that was in ruins when found and they have done a great job of restoration. The common areas are very nice although not fancy. The... More

This Pousada is in a magnificent location with wonderful views. The staff were fabulous and all spoke excellent English. The building was a wonderful mix of old and new. Our room was modern with a fantastic view. Dinner and breakfast were excellent. Directions to the Pousada were necessary.

This pousada has everything - in a beautiful setting in the hills, excellent food, fine bedrooms and friendly staff. It's good value for what it is offering. Partially restored and partially newly built, the atmosphere is serene and it's a treat to watch the sun go down from the terrace. It is well located for walking in the nearby national... More

The guesthouse of the Convento de Belmonte, is part of a convent restored with excellent taste. There are good surprises in interior design and has an excellent breakfast. It has a good restaurant and the employees are friendly. The place is quiet and peaceful countryside. Belmonte is part of the historical villages of Portugal and is well located for those... More

We stayed for a single night at this gorgeous pousada, as part of a tour of northern Portugal. and only regretted that it was not longer! We had a beautiful large room on the ground floor (all the rooms are named after friars - ours was Frei Gabriel) with a large terrace of our own and a magnificent view over... More
