We stayed two nights before catching the fast ferry to Bergen. There were two ferries on Sunday so we were lucky and got the one at 11am rather than the evening one that operates Monday to Saturday. We were met at the ferry when we arrived and our bags were taken up the hill. We enjoyed the 5 minute walk.... more

Was quite a nice stay at the Midtnes, Balestrand. First, the bad though: Yes the snaps on the hotel website are a bit misleading. But we already knew that from the other members on TA. There's no Fjord view from the hotel. And there's no Fridge in the room. The bathroom could have used a better color than the very... more

Booked with FjordTours and then followed up with the hotel directly via email. First welcome surprise... Even though we had booked a standard room (no fjord view), the hotel was not full and we had been upgraded to a fjord-view room. :) Jon Gjeraker, our host and general manager, is a lovely man and completely committed to the comfort of... more

Booked hotel using the fjordpass. Before booking, I checked the hotels website a couple times to read everything about the hotel. Not impressed by hotel. First tried to give us a backroom, but managed to have it changed to a better room in the ugly building where the guest rooms seem to be. The lovely white structure on their website... more

Stayed three nights at the Midtnes in July 2008. Booked directly with the hotel, phoned and then confirmed by email (and this is probably a good way to do it). Good location, 50 meters or so up hill from Fjord edge and about 200 metres from Balestrand’s shops and jetty. Only problem is that some rooms in new bit of... more

A very pleasant hotel in a fabulous and peaceful setting. I take issue with previous reviewers who have slagged off aspects of this little hotel. OK,. the modern block is not the most sensitive development for the location (but pales into insignificance with the Kviknes extension!), but once you are in the sizeable and comfortable rooms, the balcony with fjord... more

The Midtnes is located in the middle of a picturesque town. The rooms are basic, but very clean and have balconies with partial views of the fjord. No television, but around such beautiful nature, one should not need it. Good breakfast, but not many restaurants in town. more

Midtnes Hotel is a very nice place to stay in Balestrand, which is one of the loveliest little towns in the fjord country. The town itself is very quiet and peaceful, nestled alongside Sognefjord, and a great base for taking ferry rides on the fjords. We stayed here for three nights, and enjoyed our stay, though the hotel is not... more

I have to agree with the others that mentioned that the web site description of the property is misleading. The Midtnes is certainly a business of convenience, they have a captive market and know it so there is no need to do much for service. Breakfast is served between 8-10 despite there being regular early morning ferries (7:50, 8:05) either... more
