An old hotel with a modern extension. rooms in the original part a bit quirky but comfortable. Wi-Fi available but with all the plumbing for the sprinkler system, a bit hit and miss. Many lounges, with views, and a large dining room. Meals buffet style with good choices. Staff very helpful. Rooms at the front have views over fjord and... More

Our time at the Kviknes was very enjoyable....it is is truly a romantic grand old hotel...with a lot of history and great beauty surrounding it. The staff was very pleasant and friendly and our room was in the old section....very charming, great view and new bathroom! The Balhalm Car Rental Service was fantastic....great place to rent a car to explore... More

We arrived at Balestrand after a 4hr, somewhat scary drive from Geiranger where we stayed at the plush Hotel Union. The parking for the hotel doesn't seem sufficient for the number of rooms (190 in all. 12 in the quirky old part). We ended up parking on the grass outside the concrete 70's style extension. Every other review seems to... More

Stayed for a week at this hotel in a beautiful setting. Staff friendly, food good and plentiful (though quite repetitive for am extended stay). Sadly the 'new' part of the hotel suffers from appalling sound insulation, meaning that you can hear every door banging, shower and toilet flush in surrounding rooms. Bring ear plugs if you're a light sleeper.

We came here with a small educational tour group for two nights. The "historic" hotel, where we stayed, is charming but truly old fashioned. Lovely wooden ceilings and porch facing the fjord. The hotel is what my dad used to call a "firetrap"... The queen bed in our room was comfortable but of the spring bed variety...you'll know when your... More

This is a lovely old hotel set right on the Sognefjord. The older part & rooms are all accessible & we enjoyed using them post dinner. Our room was in the new block & had a side fjord view. It was quiet, comfy & spacious. Just - how planning permission for such a 7 storey eyesore was got beggars belief.... More

Our room at the Kviknes Hotel was not facing the fjord, but it had the most beautiful view of the mountains. The hotel is pleasant enough, but we had a couple of problems with it. One was with the WIFI, It worked in the lobby, and sometimes it worked in our room on the 7th floor, but not all the... More

this is an establishment that knows how to spoil you. Elegant surroundings and as someone said the buffet is a veritable banquet. It is like stepping back into a lovely era and oh so peaceful We stayed in the antique rooms and despite the fact they lack a little in. The space dept I e for setting down toiletries they... More

We stayed in the old part not the modern part. This is a very grand wooden hotel. The rooms are large. the view is great. there is a porch for many of the rooms and a veranda on the main floor that is accessible from all the very large and grand public sitting rooms. the food was all buffet, both... From arrival to departure this was a special place. Location is amazing and you see it's beauty already from arrival with the express boat. The entrance to the hotel is right next to the dock of the boat. I had booked a room with balcony un the historic building. Rooms are small but have it's charm. Don't expect anything fancy... More
