Its easy to tell that history sits deep in these walls. The old part feels like you just wandered into the national gallery`s little brother. Situated beautifully on the northern shore of the Sognefjord, the Kviknes hotel offers a spectacular view to the dramatic and ever-changing fjord landscape. I had a room in the new part unfortunately, but the experience... More

This is a spectacular, old and historic hotel in an idyllic setting along the fjord in Balestrand. The public spaces, including the breakfast room/dining room were grand and stately and well-kept. My room, in the historic wing, was spacious with a large balcony overlooking the water. But besides hearing the creaky floorboards, I think I heard noises from each room... More

We had booked a 'double room with view in the modern building'. It had a nice view over the fjord and the town but the room had very dated 1960/1970 décor and more importantly from our point of view the balcony was tatty and unappealing with peeling paint. Fortunately, as the hotel was not full, we were able to upgrade... More

Although some might fault it for the fact it's an older hotel, we loved it precisely for that reason. You could feel history in its beautiful rooms and verandas. We spent two weeks touring Norway and although we stayed in some really trendy places, the Kviknes ended up being our favorite hotel for the entire trip, thanks to its sense... More

We spent the final 3 nights of our trip to Norway at Kviknes Hotel and we loved it! It is in a beautiful location, overlooking the fjord and, despite having over 200 rooms, it was so peaceful to sit and watch the moon rising over the water. The buffet style breakfast and evening meals were delicious and although the dining... More

This hotel is on one of the most beautiful spots on our planet, the Sognefjord in Norway. This is the third time we have stayed here (1998, 2012 and June 2014). Each time we stayed in the "New" wing which is now getting old. The rooms were very adequate with a balcony and seating. The grounds, historic hotel and unbelievable... More

This hotel is right on the waterfront of the fjord. There is an elegant and graceful older building with restaurant and several lounges, together with some bedrooms. but most are in an adjoining concrete block devoid of any character on the outside. The bedroom was spacious but not luxurious. It lacked a fridge, the beds were poor, and the balcony... More

I was on Trip Advisor and reading Rick Steves' book before deciding where to stay in Balestrand. Earlier Trip Advisor reviews were pretty harsh about the Kviknes. But things must have changed. All the staff were very helpful and spoke perfect English. I stayed in the lower cost newer part, that complainers said was old and musty and lacked charm.... More

We stayed just one night in the newer hotel. Fairly small room (third floor), but it had great views of the fjord and the town. Beautiful downstairs, with outdoor seating. Lavish dining room with floor-to-ceiling windows offering panoramic vistas. The dinner was offered as smorgasbord, but it had everything one could want. The buffet was expensive, though. It was 1,090... More

I stayed at the Kviknes Hotel for 3 nights in early May and this was my favorite hotel during my entire two week trip to Norway. I rented a car in Oslo and drove everywhere, and this gem can be reached either by ferry driving from the east or south or it is on the road system coming from the... More
