I took an independent tour of Scandinavia last summer and out of seven hotels I stayed in this one was my favorite. The hotel is very historical located along the Sognefjord in Balestrand. I had a fjordview room and it was wonderful to sit on my balcony in the evening and look out. The staff was very helpful, even stored... More

Loved this hotel, but it is like visiting your eccentric old aunt, old furniture and photographs included. Has an old fashioned look and feel, with a certain funkiness that makes it charming. If you can get one of the rooms on the front with the gingerbread trip you will get a spectacular forward looking view out onto the fjord. No... More

If you are in the area, this is a must. The old, big wooden hotel is gorgious. The rooms in the newer part is, howevwr, rather small, but there is no reason to stay in the room in this fairytailhouse except for sleeping. Exellent food and serviceminded staff. This summer I did not stay over night there, but I passed... More

The Kvikness Hotel happened to be a palace in the past. Naturally the setting inside is amazing. Only problem is to accommodate more people in the hotel, expansion of rooms was a natural option. But these extentions do not match with the glorious, historic setting. But if you can discount the mediocrity of the rooms in the new wing, you... More

We spent one glorious day at the Kviknes Hotel. The scenery, the accomodation, the service, and food were great. This is an awesome place. I just wish we would have planned for several days. I would definitely recommend the Kviknes.

We took the four hour fast ferry round trip from Bergen just so we could stay overnight in this historic hotel. We also waned to enjoy the seafood buffet which in spite of the price was well worth it. Overall it was worth the trip...! Our fjord view room had a spectacular view & the breakfast buffet was excellent as... More

We were at our room balcony experiencing the many sensations you may have there, when we heard some guests at their room balcony very close to our room excitedly talking to their family over the phone and saying "...we are in the postcard!!!" . This is the best short trustful description we may offer. We have stayed at this hotel... More

First of all, one can only be amazed by the historic facade, building and impressive size of the hotel! The lobby and above all, the rooms around the dining main room, not to mention the dining/breakfast/lunch room itself (huge!) are particularly impressive. We have not stayed overnight in the oldest part of the hotel, but the most recent one, although... More

Stayed for for just one night on a work trip. I was in the 'new bulding'. The rooms are dated, but clean and a good size and have bath tubs. But to be honest, this place is not about the rooms. It's about everything else. The wonderful history, lovely staff, amazing food and the incredible setting with breathtaking views of... More

Yes, it's old but it's well done and the rooms are small and simple, but comfortable and modernized. The hotel itself has spectacular views of the fjord and is furnished with lots of seating areas that are decorated with antique furniture and paintings. The food is great. Many tour groups come through, but if you are traveling alone you are... More
