The place and the landscape are gorgeous but the service was a disappointment: - the (lack of) staff was always very busy, doing different tadks, without time to answer your questions; - no room cleaning and also you need to leave the kitchen cleaned and all the garbage collected; - very old TV; - inexistent heating; - no staff beyond 6h30 and... It's a medieval castle, so don't expect modern design interior. But the people are friendly and helpful. Our room was super large, decoration in line with the building, but with modern airco! Views are of course stunning. Breakfast is served in the on site restaurant.

I cannot praise the accommodation at Rocca di Castagnoli enough. Our two bedroom apartment was wonderful, full of character and spacious. The only potential problem was that when we booked it, it was described as being air conditioned, but it wasn't. The weather was cool while we were there, so it was fine. The kitchen was also not very well... More

We have stayed in Tuscany, in a variety of accommodation types, for many years. This has to rank as one of the best experiences we've had in Italy - despite indifferent weather this year. The medieval hill-top town and winery is idyllic - you can feel the history around you; the management is first class and the staff are all... More

The winery was recommended by our hotel and we had no idea what to expect when we arrived. Christina was our host for the wine tasting and was amazing, we couldn't fault her, she was knowledgeable, funny, very warm and welcoming. She took us through the winery first and explained how the wine was made and what makes a Chianti... More

I need to preface this review by saying I have been involved in active tourism in Italy for the last 18 years, at the highest level, acting as manager for several of the top active travel companies based here in Italy. I have specialized in Tuscany since 1997 and many Tuscan friends have commented I know Tuscany better than they... More

We visited Chianti in early July and stayed at Rocca di Castagnoli for a wonderful week. We chose to rent an apartment so that I could shop the local markets and do some cooking. We loved our little apartment - one huge room with everything we needed - in the castle. The bathroom was amazing with an astounding shower! While... More

Stayed here for four nights. No AC, No stand up shower. but the staff made up for the lacking of modern conveniences. Wine tasting included--amazing. Big pool was a great view of the countryside. swallow nests with baby birds had the girls fascinated. Max the manager of the restaurant was great. Christina and Esther in the winery were super helpful.... More

The place is an old castle, so don't expect an ultra modern room, and realize that modern comfort must have been retrofitted with all it's compromises. But the room we had was very clean and very cosy. Not in the mood for wine tourism? Enjoy the nice pool with unique views over the rolling hills of Chianti! For a winelover... More

My girlfriend and I were originally going to stay here for a week’s self catering but in the end went with another great place further North. However we heard about the vineyard and that it was worth paying a visit to anyway. We arranged a time and arrived just after lunch. We were met by a very friendly member of... More
