Love this place! We came over from Poole on the Ferry to Cherbourg (nastiest, dirtiest town in France possibly) and 30 minutes afterwards were in this charming place. Hotel is lovely. They are a bit short-staffed (others say so too) particularly having one person to do check-out, supervise breakfast and answer the phones - but that was just a little... More

Very enjoyable stay and we felt well looked after. The restaurant is first rate with unpretentious French cuisine and decent wine list. Bedroom a little small and bed a bit on the soft side. But I can recommend this hotel, being at the quiet end of Carteret (a quiet little village anyway), with a charming garden, pleasant staff and good... More

Great detail at La Rivage, cosy and welcoming atmosphere. We went here twice. Second time we decided to have the Degustacion Menu - it was amazing. Compliments to the kitchen team. Moules in a basket, The foie gras with strawberries, the calvados sorbet, the meat with an amazing sweet potato mash, the cheese crumble was to die for to the... More

Just stayed there and must say all in all were satisfied with this property. The room we stayed was number 11 in the "dependence" opposite the hotel. Only 3 rooms there. We were facing the harbor and had a lovely room. Huge and very well decorated. Only reproach would be the carpet. Made of "sisal" I am not sure exactly... More

This hotel is very well situated in the picturesque sea-side village of Barneville-Carteret, it seems recently renovated and is very tastefully decorated in "marine" style. The furniture and paintings are carefully chosen and of excellent taste while the color and architecture of the hotel offer guests a very cozy ambiance of relaxed luxury. The hotel also features an outstanding restaurant... More

As a family, we've been coming to the region since I was a child. Carteret and the lovely Norman western coast with its remarkable stretches of beach and dunes has changed very little, so it has conserved its very old charm. Regional food and lodging has often lagged since the mid 20th century. Jose de Mello's 2 hotels with adjoining... More

This is a small, friendly boutique style hotel in the lovely coastal village of Carteret. I chose this hotel as we were visiting friends in the area after many years away. Having had a mobyhome in the village for several years I had seen the rebuilding and redecorating of this hotel develop but had never been inside. So on this... More

This is a good hotel in terms of food, service and location. These are its saving graces. It is quite precious and seemed to attract a crowd that were prone to look down on people who weren't a) french b) rich or c) cosmopolitan chic. It was a bit of a hot house with at times those not fitting into... More

The Hotel Des Ormes has a lot going for it - overlooking the estuary, a lovely bedroom with this view, and a splendid beach. The restaurant has an extensive menu which we thoroughly enjoyed and as a place to stay at Carteret there is little reason not to choose here. The staff might mug up on their customer service skills,... More

Hotel room small with no airco, but good beds. French TV channels only. Excellent breakfast with freshly squized orange juice and home made jams. Perfect garden dinner setting with a cuisine at high standards, but too bad about the noisy kitchen airco which spoils the quietness. A great location if you are into sailing (with a marina across the road)... More
