In the rough guide this hotel came recommended, when we arrived the rooms were a bit pricier than we had in mind, 125$ The room was OK but nothing special, since we were pretty late we decided to take the room. As soon as we said yes the guy said that we would have to pay 25% more because it... more

I live in Tanzania and often visit Zanzibar and Sunrise wins the price of worst hotel experience on this otherwise wonderful island! The rooms were dirty, the pool was dirty and the food was – besides being ridiculously over-priced – some of the worst I’ve had in Tanzania! But worst of all was the service: The staff was rude, not... more

You should absolutely avoid that hotel and should find much better alternatives on that superb spot. This is just very high price for the level of service and quality of accomodation you get. Rooms are dark, small, with an horrible fusty smell. Food is disapointing, expensive...and scarce. Hopefully, there was a much better value local restaurant next door! The swimming... more

After an exhilirating safari experience, most travellers to Tanzania head to Zanzibar to lay on a beautiful white sandy beach, be served exquisite cocktails, and doze off into a blissful sleep whilst listening to waves lap the shore. Sound too good to be true? Well -yes it is. Having travelled to Vanuatu, Tahiti, Bali, Malaysia and the gorgeous Whitsundays in... more

The breakfast was less than appetising and the service ranged from mediocre to bad. The food was over priced and the tiny portions left us hungry. I could not get anything to eat from between 2.30pm and 7pm because the kitchen closes. The rooms were clean but very simple. They were also very damp. Bring a bug spray because there... more

This hotel was the perfect choice after a week's safari. It was such a peaceful and relaxing experience. I was the only guest during my 2 night stay and had the facilities of the hotel and the beach all to myself ! The hotel is situated next to a quiet stretch of beach lined with coconut palms. I spent my... more

I booked my 5 nights stay at this hotel, recommended by a local travel agency, to get my annual break. Surprising the hotel demanded full payment up, which I begrudgingly paid as I was committed to this holiday. As my luck would have it, my airline changed their entire schedule to the region forcing me to cancel the holiday as... more

I have stayed at Sunrise twice, the second time on my honeymoon and I have found this hotel to be perfect for newly weds to spend some quality time together. I found the relaxed atmosphere and quiet seclusion to be one of its plus points. After a day of hustle and bustle in nearby Stone Town, it was nice to... more

We stayed at the Sunrise in August 2007 with high hopes. We booked 5 nights but checked out after 3 nights. We paid 110/night including breakfast. The hotel is comfortable and in a quiet area. The beach is not as good as the beach at nearby Paje. The food is quite good and a decent value. If you decide to... more

I have just returned from taking a group, fourteen people in all, to East Africa on safari. We ended with a few days at the Sunrise inn at Bwejuu beach in Zanzibar (Unguja) island. The hotel is unpretentious but comfortable and is owned by a charming Belgian called Georges who is obviously a great cook because the food (lots of... more
