This hotel is a DISASTER! We booked to stay for the last four nights of our holiday in Tanzania (which was great until this point). It soon became obvious why there were no other guests booked in to stay for tour week - the place was empty! Our room only had two beds (we had made it clear that we had two adult children). The air con didn’t work. There was no power in the room when we arrived. The beach was hopeless (the photos on the website are deceiving) and only swimmable for a short time each day. When we tried to cancel I was not allowed to speak to the relevant people….dirty loos, broken hammocks, not cared for at all DO NOT STAY IN THIS HOTEL.

Great Food! Nice Service! Beautiful setting at the beach. The garden is a little paradise with yellow birds that build their globular nests in the tree‘s branches everywhere and coconuts falling down ready to be opened and tasted. Anna of Zanzibar is a local runned hotel, 1 1/2 h from the airport at the eastern coast in Dongwe. Calm, relaxed, just holiday!

It surpassed my expectations! What can I say about Anna of Zanzibar, as a sole female traveller looking for a peaceful setting with amazing food and beautiful location, I couldn't have asked for more. Located about 15 mins from Paje (the closest town). If I wanted a change of scenery it was only a short taxi ride. The food at the hotel was wonderful I ate there pretty much every night, the staff were friendly and helpful. Just an amazing place.

I spent my day at Anna of Zanzibar with a friend , we were taken care of by Candy. She gave us space and also took amazing care of us. The Menus need some TLC, the cocktail I had was not good, but the service made up for that. Lovely place, I will be back.

I chose this hotel thanks to the comments of previous guests and I confirm what I read : very nice comfortable rooms, well equipped and very clean. The staff very friendly and do all their best to satisfy customers, special thank to Laurent who waited for us 1 in the morning for our late arrival, Irene who take care of us for almost all breakfast and when she was not there her colleagues did all their best, Abbas who was very professional and very nice, many thanks to all the staff from security to reception to restaurant to all. Why not 5 star than ? Because the water for the shower and in the robinet is so salty that my daughter has skin issue, it is not dangerous but I think that something that should be improved to be five star hotel, I learned that water is an issue in all Zanzibar and the hotel is doing his best to provide drink water each day (6 bottles each day) I will chose for sure this hotel in future stay as I found my ease and I liked it very much.

We picked Anna because the reviews were good but we were sorely disappointed. On the positive side - the staff were very cordial, you'll have the beach almost to yourself, the garden is beautiful, it's a peaceful, green environment here. On the downside: the approach is almost a kilometre of pure stone, bumpy dirt road. The rooms smelled musty, and unaired. Lotsms of things had a layer of dust on them. There is ONLY salt water in the taps, it's almost seawater. There is also no health faucet in the toilet. When we complained the hotel manager took the time to tell us that they had a management change a few months ago, and so are in the process of fixing some things - like a water treatment system (something all other hotels in the area seem to have). For the steep price they charge, they are not on par with their peers. And if they are in the process of improving services - well, that's not really the customer's problem. I wish they had been clear about that. Also note, this is not a Pili Pili property anymore.

We stayed at Anna for a week at the end of Feb/Start of March (just before lockdown!!). It was full when we arrived and again when we left but we also had 2 days with the whole place to ourselves in the middle. Anna of Zanzibar is exactly what we were looking for, The bungalows are huge (I think the bathroom alone was about the same size as my London flat), the bed super-comfortable and the minibar well stocked. The main house provides a great place for breakfast and dinner (we usually had lunch by the beach) and the pool in the middle was perfect for an afternoon dip. The staff were all superb, looking after everything we needed from a cold beer in the sun to a taxi to various nearby attractions including the Rock restaurant just up the road and the Jozani forest about 30 mins away to see the Red Colobus Monkeys. The weather was unbelievable for us so we mostly just sat under a parasol by the beach reading and watching the tide slowly come in. Anna is truly a sactuary of chilled out solitude. Top tip: bring some sea shoes and a snorkel as there are tons of sea urchins in the coral shallows but also excellent snorkelling in the crystal clear water (so warm it was like getting into a hot bath). We didn't want to leave and can't wait to come back.

Anna of Zanzibar is a very unique place to be! It only has 5 bungalows, so the most people that can stay in this boutique hotel are 10..... You feel like you are in paradise. The bungalows are qre unique and tastefully decorated and have everything one could wish for. The food is incredible and you can choose were you want to have breakfast, lunch or dinner (they set a beautiful table wherever you wish!) It is quiet and relaxing, the pool and beach are beautiful and it is VERY HARD to leave this wonderful place. Michael, the owner, and his beautiful wife take care of you at your arrival, and like the super nice staff, are there when you need them but are not overbearing with attention. The friendly staff just seems to sense when you are in need of something, and appear out of thin air to take care of your wishes:) A truly amazing, wonderful place to relax and dream ....

Stayed here for 4 nights and had the best experience. The staff were so nice and accommodating with anything we wanted. The food was amazing and the menu different every day. The beach was meters from the villa! One evening my son wanted to watch his favourite football team and the owner Mike was kind enough to invite us to his home so we can watch it with him!! What a fantastic place and perfect if you are in need of relaxation. The spa is also highly recommended.

Sometimes, I visit somewhere so special I don’t want to leave a good review, In case hoards of people decide to go! It would be lovely to keep it “secret” but Anna of Zanzibar is such a special place, it deserves a special review. Please don’t go here if you like lots of people around; if you like music and activities. Don’t go if you are not willing to relax. Don’t go if you want sparkling marble washrooms and state of the art furniture. Don’t go if you don’t like dogs and cats. Don’t go if you want speedy service at the snap of a finger. Do go if you want to feel special and nurtured. Anna of Zanzibar is beautiful in every aspect. If you want peace and quiet, lovely, lovely staff who really care, wonderful food eaten when and where you want, superb beer and wine, authentic accommodation with comfort, then this is the place for you. Just 5 bungalows each one very private. A mobile phone to link you to the manager, owner, or service. Lovely comfortable loungers round the pool or by the sea. We stayed for 2 weeks and could have stayed longer. For most of the time, we were the only guests! Thank you to the manager Petida, to the owner Michael, and to all the wonderful staff who became our friends. Christine and Phil from Leicester.
