Really great hotel located by the beautiful beach. Service was excellent in the entire hotel, but I would like to mention few people that made our stay unforgettable, that is Elifuraha, Frederick and Edwin. We really appreciate their help and kindness.

Hotel's Favorite
Before we even arrived we were off to a good start. Ahead of our holiday I emailed the hotel a few times and quickly received helpful replies. One of my requests was for our 2 rooms to be located near to each other and we were so happy to be given neighbouring rooms, thank you. My daughters and I were welcomed on arrival with a big smile and a friendly “Jambo” (hello) from the porter and this set the tone for our entire stay. Without exception we found the staff to be friendly, super helpful, and going out of their way to make sure we enjoyed our stay. Every member of the team we came across smiled, said hello and asked if they could do anything for us. I’ve stayed in some fantastic hotels but have to say the attentiveness, customer service and concern for our enjoyment was the best here that I have experienced and made our stay so special. The whole team deserves recognition for the wonderful service. Not sure how I will cope back at home when I actually have to do something for myself! We stayed in garden rooms which were large, clean and well furnished. Beds are surrounded by mosquito nets and there was a sliding mosquito patio door net which meant we could enjoy leaving our patio door open but keep the net closed thereby avoiding a mosquito invasion. The bathroom was huge and nice quality products were available throughout our stay. Spice Market is where we had breakfast and buffet dinner. Dinner was usually accompanied by a variety of entertainment, but there are other bars to escape to after dinner if that’s not your thing. Gabi beach has beautiful, soft white sand, turquoise sea, palm trees offering welcome shade and hammocks to relax in. The food at the beach is delicious and I can recommend the Octopus. Sun beds are plentiful both at the pool and the beach and staff are on hand to lay towels (provided by the hotel) out as you arrive and supply delicious drinks. The jetty is stunning and very photogenic, especially at dawn. The lunch menu changed daily, all delicious, especially enjoyed against the backdrop of wonderful ocean views. For dinner we had tasty fish cooked in aromatic Zanzibar spices while being serenaded by some fantastic musicians. We also ate at Tamu where we enjoyed delicious Swahili cuisine in a most amazing setting. It’s a beautiful place. The gym is very well kitted out and the beautiful view of the ocean from the gym almost made the treadmill bearable 😊 The shuttle service between reception, gym, spa, beach and The Level runs often; we never had to wait more than 5 minutes. The drivers were always cheerful, chatty and pointed out wildlife along the way. We did have a couple of problems during our stay but as soon as these were mentioned they were resolved which we really appreciated. Be prepared for frequent power cuts, but they never lasted more than a couple of minutes. One small thing we didn’t like was the persistence of the people on the beach selling tours, jewellery etc. I do understand we are all trying to make a living, but they stood waiting for us to walk away from the hotel and on a couple of occasions they followed us along the beach. That was enough to stop me walking along the beach beyond the hotel alone which was a pity. Not sure what the hotel can do about this though. Stone Town is definitely worth a visit, giving a glimpse of a very different Zanzibar. We had a guide and as 3 female travellers this was a wise move. A few practical tips: UK 3 pin plugs can be used in the hotel sockets; no need to bring adaptors. US dollars are accepted almost everywhere so don’t bother trying to obtain Tanzanian Shilling. Obtain your visa online before arrival as the queues to obtain visas at the airport were long. What a wonderful holiday.

My husband and I stayed at the hotel for a week after a safari. The hotel is really nice, the reception of the level is outstanding, and the swimming pool has the most amazing view on the ocean. Some parts of the hotel would benefit of a little refurbishment but overall it looks great. The special gem of the hotel is the staff. Everyone is always so friendly, ready to help. They constantly go above and beyond.

I recently returned from a birthday trip to Zanzibar with my daughter and we stayed at the Melia Hotel in Kiwengwa. WOW WOW WOW!! The hotel surpassed my expectations. The grounds, restaurants, views, and staff were above par. We stayed at Melia Level as all-inclusive guests and we were treated like royalty. Staff couldn't do enough for you! It was also a bonus that the 'level' has its own private 'adult only' pool for level members. Our villa hut was beautiful!! It was large and spacious and our views looked out to the Indian Ocean. Melia is located in the quiet end of Kiwengwa which was perfect for us. Each day was spent either walking out in the ocean when the sea was out with new local Massai tribe members (Nature and Moses) Boy could you walk out far! I would like to say a MASSIVE thank you to Daniel (Guest Relations Manager) who went above and beyond to ensure I had the best birthday ever!! Thank you! I would like to say a SPECIAL thank you to the following staff members for always greeting us with a smile and being so friendly. They couldn't do enough for you. Melia should be so proud to have them working for them. Lillian (waitress Melia Level) - Lillian would surprise us each day by bringing over our favorite drinks before we had even asked for them. She always greeted us with her infectious smile and was so friendly. Dai (pool boy - Melia Level) - Dai was amazing! I'm an early bird and like to lounge by the pool at around 7.30 am. Dai would always come over and take the time to talk to me and ask me about my time on the island. He also taught my daughter and me to play the bao game. Which is a traditional Tanzanian board game. We enjoyed playing it so much that we ended up buying one to take home. Habebo (buggy driver). Habebo would always sing my favorite song. He sang it with so much pride and joy! I loved getting in his buggy for our journey over the main building. Nash (IT man) - unfortunately, I had major issues trying to access WiFi whilst I was at the hotel. Nash went above and beyond to try and get it working for me. Although intermittent it seems that Kiwengwa is not a Google mobile fan. However, it did allow me to recharge and digitally detox from not being on the phone all the time. Azaki (Massai). What an absolute gem. He greeted me every morning with a smile. Such a beautiful person. I would also like the thank the following staff members at the Level. Silima Syed Tumain Cecilia Bruno Elifuraha Hawa Like I said earlier; every staff member listed went above and beyond and Melia should be so proud of every one of them. I am forever grateful for them making my birthday trip to Zanzibar one I will never forget. The hotel exceeded all my expectations and more. I have fond memories of the island and can't wait to return. Kerry & Jasmyn🙏🏽

The resort overall is good but old. The service was the best, staff were friendly and welcoming, especially Issa he took care of us and managed our requests professionally. The location is good almost near to where we wanted to go. However the room is a bit old and the bed wasn't not comfortable but they immediately changed the mattress which I liked about them. Food also is good and well-diversified.

We stayed for a long weekend at melia Zanzibar. It was fantastic in everyway. First thing to remember is that there are two hotels within melia, the main melia hotel and the level. The level is where we stayed, it was a VIP style luxury place. We had our own little bungalow, the views of the ocean were beautiful and the assistance was fantastic. Our room attendant/ minibar guy was named Omar, he went above and beyond, memorizing our favorite drinks, making flower arrangements and brining mango’s for us (the mango’s are the best in Zanzibar). We ate room service which was quite good. We also ate at the buffet at the main melia restaurant. We caught bbq night and Indian night. Both had delicious selections. I highly recommend the Karak mouse desert, it was so decadent and incredible. Our waitress Bihati was super friendly and was open about her Christianity and the experiences she has had in Zanzibar. She brought a touch of personality and joy to our dinner. The bedroom had a pillow menu and was very comfortable, the air conditioning worked well and we slept very comfortably. 5/5 great place to stay.
