My husband and I stayed here as a romantic getaway. The place was very quiet at that season, the owner was so sweet and lovely. The rooms were clean and well maintained. We were greeted with fresh flowers! The food was good but we thought it was expensive as prices were unrealistic in Euros!! We ate twice to the next... More

We stayed at Panga Chumvi over Easter, low season and low price for us. We enjoyed it very much, it was quiet, the food was good and when the tide came in we could snorkel. At night we saw shooting stars and the rise of the moon, which was very impressive. The owner, Rebecca, is absolutely lovely. There is no... More

NIce hotel, but not worth the 100 EUR we paid (even in low season); for that amount one may expect a pool and AC in the room. Maybe because of the season, but the sea and beach was rather dirty. Water not clear and lots of plastics..

I enjoyed my stay at the Panga Chumvi, but there were some details that if I were to visit Zanzibar would probably try another property. I loved the beach, the sand is white and soft. The hotel takes good care of it, but if you go North or South, there is a lot of rubbish. As soon as you arrive... More

Hi, I am so sorry to hear about the taxi - this should certainly not have happened! We do work with a trusted partner in Matemwe to provide our taxis, and have an agreement with them about the price prior to booking them in for a visitor arriving at the airport or coming from any other part of the island.... It was my 1st trip to Africa with a couple of girlfriends. I stayed at Panga Chumvi for 11 days. My room faced the indian ocean. A fabulous view. The fresh seafood, that is octopus, best ever squid that is in size and taste, the samosas for late afternoon tea, good coffee, mangoes, the list was endless. My room was... More

We rented a jeep in Zanzibar and traveled through the area, matemwe was our favourite stop - maybe luck of the draw. The location is very seclude which means you are completely left in quiet at the beach, which is almost empty. There wasn't a single tourist in site. The rooms are nice but basic and for the price they... More

Thanks for your nice review which we do appreciate - we are really happy that you enjoyed your stay with us, and the fantastic beach. I am a little confused, however, as the room you were staying in doesn't have AC - it is naturally ventilated by the beautiful Matemwe breeze. We only have one house with AC, and we... More

Panga Chumvi offered us everything we wanted from a relaxing holiday in Zanzibar away from social madness in the north of the island. The constant rumble of the sea reminds you that you are right on the beach and can go for a quick swim at anytime as the water is always perfect. The staff is friendly, attentive and always... More

Thanks for your lovely and helpful review! I have spoken to our new Head Chef, and discussed the different methods of cooking. He is overseeing all the meat and fish preparation and cooking and since he took over, we've seen a better continuity in the amount of cooking - no more overcooked meat! We are thrilled to hear many positive... More

Went in April which is low season so most things were closed yet quite enjoyed just hanging out on the porch and dining in the resort. Nothing too fancy but nice garden, good beach, water clean but full of algae though that could have been due to the current tides during the month. Hammocks under palm trees, canoes available and... Panga Chumvi was one of our favorite place during our honeymoon. It is a quite simple place, no frills there but it really makes the best of its surroundings. We spent three nights in a very large room directly facing the sea with a gigantic terrace, total privacy and stunning sunrise that would get you out of the bed in... More

Rebecca & Lupendo along with all the other fantastic staff really make this place sparkle 5 Star style. It's super laid back and has good food, an incredible beach, and rustic luxury. Our group of 9 could not have asked for a better place for relaxation, rejuvenation, & reflection. They can organize henna or massage for 10k shillings, One Ocean... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Panga Chumvi Beach Resort, Matemwe, on the north eastern coast of Zanzibar, is right on the beautiful white sand beach (the longest unbroken stretch of beach in Zanzibar), opposite the pristine coral reef of Mnemba Island. We have 15 simple and stylishly comfortable rooms - in 4 guest lodges. Each room faces out on to its own wide veranda, has a sea or a tropical garden view, and is furnished with traditional hand-crafted coconut wood furniture. Our restaurant overlooks the beach. We love eating fresh, local produce and tasty Zanzibar cuisine, so this is what our chefs prepare for you, when you want it throughout the day. We love both vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes. Fresh fruit smoothies and cocktails a speciality. We have a good selection of wine, spirits and Tanzanian beers. Staff helpful and friendly. Developing our already close relationship with Matemwe village, we are working towards becoming an eco resort which is very environmentally and culturally aware. Sea views, tropical garden, wi-fi – stunning. ... more   less
