we only stayed one night but it wasnt up to much. Twizel describes itself a 'vibrant' - but is anything but! however its a convenient stopping place. The view from the chalet is over a desolate playground. The staff were fairly dour and not very helpful. The chalet was very basic and cold even in summer. They say they charge... more

Just found the accomodation absolutely freezing particularily the bathroom and kitchen which were not heated and it was minus 5 during the night. I went to bed with my clothes on as I just couldnt get warm, it had warmed up a bit by the morning so that we could brave the shower more

Comfortable detached A-frame chalets, well situated for the Twizel (pronounced TWY-ZEL) township and access to the base of Mount Cook. At around NZ$105 directly from the motel, these are a bargain. It's 3 minutes to shopping, cafe's pubs etc and a very leisurely one hour drive to the base of Mt Cook. A friendly fuss-free check-in, and ample parking right... more

Stayed here after hiking through Mount Cook. Hotel was a relatively close drive from the mountains and as Twizel is the only closeby "big city", we decided to stay here so we could stock up on groceries and have some options for dinner. Our room was an individual cabin which was cute and also clean and fine for a 1... more

We stayed here for one night as part of a driving holiday around NZ. When we arrived, they had no record of our booking (even though we had written confirmation of the booking made through our agent together with another 10 hotels on this trip - and had no problems at any of the others) but they thankfully had an... more

The property has about 25 self contained chalets of different sizes. Ours had a full size cooker, large bathroom and separate bedroom. It was very good value. It was a short walk to the small shopping mall which had several restaurants. Twizel is not a destination in its own right but we found it ideal as a one night stop... more

Best thing about this place is you are staying in a separate A-frame so there is some sense of privacy, though they are close together. Price was very reasonable and room was comfortable. Note: studio chalets do NOT have ovens - we had to make our frozen pizza in the microwave, but it worked out okay. Mt. Cook was less... more

Apparently a newly built establishment, Mountain Chalet Motels is located right on the brink of Twizel and you should see it once you turn off Highway 8. We arrived rather late in the evening and the very friendly owner was kind enough to give us a discount off the normal rate. For NZD 105, we got ourselves an extremely comfortable... more

When planning our first trip abroad I gave my husband the opportunity to put 3 things on our itinerary and one was to stay overnight in a castle. The Castle Townshend at Castletownshend made our trip extra special. The Castle was just as we expected, kind of creaky, dark and filled with centuries of souveniers from travels and heirlooms. The... more
