This has everything you need - dorms for those on a budget, and lovely spacious and comfortable double rooms for those who want a bit more privacy. The communal areas are really comfortable, with a tv (cable), free wifi and a great collection of books. The breakfasts are yummy and included in the price of a double, which makes this... More

My wife and I were happy we picked La Buena Onda - for $25 we got a private room that was no frills, but was everything we needed - quiet, spacious, and with its own bathroom and shower. We spent very little time in it, given the very nice common areas. Free coffee and purified water and a good hot... More

We really enjoyed our stay in La buena Onda. Very clean with pleasant staff, the rooms are big, breakfasts are good, I would go back anytime. If you need a private guide to visit the area, a local young guy name Guillermo offers tours from the hostal. He is very good and so friendly. We found a very good italian... More

I had the first room on the right at the top of the stairs. It is an attractive, clean room with a brightly colored bedspread and private bathroom with hot water (ask at the front desk how to make the hot water work, it was a bit tricky), The staff was very friendly and helpful. They do have their own... More

This hotel/hostel is very clean and the dorms are comfortable. There is a communal TV, great book exchange and employees are mostly helpful. They serve a good breakfast for $3. It's centrally located, not far from the central park, cathedral and bars. Only complaint is the night guard, Don Pancho. It can be difficult to get him to open the... More

La Buena Onda was the nicest hostel we stayed in throughout all of our Central America mainland travels! The staff was extremely friendly and the hostel impeccably clean but more so it was a comfortable place to temporarily call your home. Between the free coffee, free wifi and couches to snuggle up on with any of their complimentary dvds, its... More

For me this super friendly and comfortable hostel has been my ´home away from home´ while living and travelling in Jinotega! I have stayed on several occasions both in private rooms and dorms and have to heap praise on this place! The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful (and speak excellent English for anyone whose Spanish is not up to... More

We stayed in a large, private room with a “matrimonial bed” and single. There was always someone at the desk that spoke English and gave good directions as well as good, nearby restaurant suggestions. La Buena Onda is close enough to Central Park but far enough away to be quieter and it’s a great place to meet fellow independent travelers.... More

We spent our first two nights in country here and it was a lovely introduction to Nicaragua. This small hotel had it's good and bad points, but overall it was a good experience. The freindly, helpful service and hospitality made all the difference. Cozy, clean room. Fan didn't work, but with a reqeust to the very helpful desk clerk a... More

Stayed here in August 2011, had a very pleasant stay. Staff very friendly, good breakfasts clean, and right in the centre of Matagalpa. The only thing is, when they say there's 'hot' water it actually means the water is not as cold as it could be, but who needs hot water in the Nicaraguan heat? Perfect stopping place for Selva...
