The Peacock Hotel is one of those places that your heart goes out to; they are struggling with keeping the hotel afloat, there aren't that many visitors since the tsunami took away a chunk of sand from the 'swimming' beach (there is a sharp drop off now and the waves are easily always 10 to 20 feet high, dangerous rip... more

We stayed at the Peacock Beach as part of the international Sri Lanka Balloon Festival tour 2008. We had heard about the devastation due to the tsunami and were impressed by the restoration that has now been completed. Lovely location. The hotel is quite shabby in places, but when you realise the hotel was totally devastated in 2004 with terrible loss of life, you just have to admire the way they are trying to get the place back together again. Go and stay there! You will love it, and they need you! more
