We only planned to spend a couple of days in Vang Vieng before moving on to Luang Prabang but ended up staying there for more than a week. The hotel staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The location was great - just a bit outside of the city center but still all within walking distance. Vang Vieng being a party... More

I have lived in Laos for over 5 years and often go to Vang Vieng for the weekends and stay at The Cocoon, however after meeting the "Falang" owner no more. This man over charged us $30, verbally abused the young local staff as thieves, wanted more money from us in regards to a drinks bill which we had already... More

This was our third visit to this resort within a year and on this occasion we had the unpleasant experience of meeting the owner. We were initially over-charged by 30 USD for our rooms and when we brought this problem to the owners attention he went into a irrational and violent rage, screamed loudly and aggressively several times at the... First of all we could not find the hotel as it was down a dark, quiet, muddy alley. Secondly we got to our room and could not see the bathroom floor for dead ants. When we complained and asked to move rooms, they were shocked that there were ants as the room had been checked just a few hours before... More

When having a look at their internet site, the hotel seems to be a little paradise among nature. It is true that the surroundings are beautiful with an amazing view on the river and the mountains BUT: - The rooms are really simple and do not correspond to the standard expected with the price we paid. There were many giant... More

Staying for three nights in early Feb, my bag was stolen from my room on my last night. There was also theft of another person's wallet that same morning. The bungalows are close enough so that you cannot sleep due to the incessent noise of thumping music in to the early hours. It is impossible to recommend this place on... More

If you want the worst possible experience in a bungalow, then stay here. The staff are a bunch of light fingered thieves who see nothing wrong from stealing from guests. During a stay of 3 days, an entire rucksack was stolen from my friend's room in the space of 2 hours during dinner, whilst a few bungalows down, a woman's... More

The Cocoon is located in a nice spot by the river and the breakfast area offers panoramic views, with cattle and water buffalo roaming around the adjoining farmland. However, the upmarket Cocoon used to be known as the Riverside Cottages, which catered to the more budget end of the market. But the only thing that has changed is the name.... More

Stayed 3 nights in a very nice bungalow. The location of the complex must be one of Vang Vieng's nicest....slitghtly off the back-packer-track. The restaurant offers a beautiful view (not hard in Vang Vieng :-) but the price level made me go elsewhere... A word of warning: the hotel is at the time of writing fairly NEW: no tuk-tuk drivers... If you are first-timer to Vang Vieng, beware that this is not a perfect place for non-adventurous type. I travelled with my wife and two small children during this New Year holidays. Booking staff suggested to book to book two rooms as the room would be too cramped for four. But I declined why I should spend another USD55 for... More
