I was quite surprised to read some of the reviews on here as my experience of this place was not at all as bad! A group of us set out for a weekend away from Nairobi - we set out for Nanyuki (first time for us) tents, sleeping bags and cooler in towe all ready for being 'one with nature'.... More

Nice people, and setting - but decor needs a serious overhaul - rooms extremely dusty, really a small step up from camping. The price was reasonable and food was good enough.lovely couple that run it though. Not recommended for small children at all.

it would seam a great deal of people reviewing this establishment have little idea they are in a developing nation.Needs modernization but otherwise great people working there really is the best curry in the highland. If anybody wonders what it was like to live with The Waltons, then go to Timau River Lodge, the poorly made, badly maintained, dark and dirty cabins are straight out of 1930s. I think the bed linen was of equal vintage. The food is reasonable and the staff are really helpful which is the saviour of this truly awful lodge.... More

Having stayed at Timau River Lodge several times over the years with family, friends and groups, I was pleasantly surprised this February by all the improvements the Wasons have made. The food was fantastic, the rooms have been done up and the bathrooms improved tremendously. I was there with a group of 20 from the UK for nearly a week... More

A few pointers for improvement to the management team: - Sticking polythene sheets (ours was peeling) stuck onto logs does not create a shower area. Invest in a shower cubicle. - If your guests must must must wear slippers in the bath then you have a problem. - It is a HUGE mistake to design your bathroom such that you... More

When your room greets you with a sign Welcoming the year 2000 you know that you have taken a step back in time and not in a good way. I am not fussy, all I ask it that the place I stay in is clean, in Kenya this isn't a big ask I have stayed in some seriously budget hotels... More

This venue is used by local expatriates and the British Army and has much character. It is a welcome change from the modern concrete monstrocities one encounters in many parts of the Country. Rustic yes but most enjoyable.

I have stayed in many places around the world with fairly dubious standards of hygiene and safety but this place has to be the worst I have encountered. It is 'quaint' if that is what you like to call dreadfully maintained. The sink fell off the wall in the bathroom (almost taking my feet with it) which was held up... More
