We recently stayed for 3 nights at the Ahwahnee Hotel - it is just a lovely place to be. Yes it is expensive and the hotel is a litle bit old and tired - it could probably do with an overhaul but it is utterly charming. The views from the gardens are spectacular and it is very close to some... More

I've stayed at the Ahwahnee two years in a row now, both times in the summer. I like being in and around nature, but I'm not much of an outdoorsy person, so I really appreciate the ability to come home from a long day of hiking to a hot shower (or relaxing bath, if you'd prefer), a comfy bed, and... The Ahwanee is located in one of the most spectacular places in America - Yosemite valley. Its location and classic, historic, architecture provide for most of what makes the hotel special. Be sure to check out the main dining hall, it is most impressive. Speaking of the dining hall, the breakfast buffet is quite good (but expensive) and I always... More

The Ahwahnee is a very nice, historic and charming hotel. We stayed there for 3 nights with our children at the end of august and having read some mediocre reviews prior, my expectations were set. Yes, it's pricey and expensive, and yes, it's old...but it's the only place to stay in Yosemite if you're not a camper and want an... More

The grounds ARE lovely, the staff is VERY accommodating, and the main building is historic and very charming as is the restaurant. Just be prepared-it is EXPENSIVE! We stayed in one of the cottages on the grounds-it is really a cottage divided into 4 small rooms for almost $500/night. There is NO cabinet space in the tiny bathroom, and the... More

Being from the East, this could possibly be our one and only visit to Yosemite. The park is a magical place where memories will be indelibly forged. With those things in mind, why not spend one night at the Ahwahnee Lodge? Yes, it is overpriced but we have no regrets having stayed here at the crown jewel of the National... More

Nice place. We did the Sunday buffet, and it was great. But 500 a night? Wow, that is a bit much. Don't get me wrong, the hotel is beautiful, the staff was GREAT- but get real. I HAVE stayed in 500 a night rooms- I have stayed in 300 a night rooms. This is not.

Even if you can't afford to stay there, a visit to the dining room is mandatory! We were upgraded from the Yosemite Lodge (a wonderful surprise). We enjoyed a bungalow behind the main hotel. It could have used a bit of updating, but overall was sumptuous and comfortable. Made the trip very memorable.

When you book a Four Diammond / Five Stars hotel, paying more than 500 USD per night, you expect a luxury hotel, elegantly furnished rooms with the highest level of comfort, luxury bathrooms with luxury amenities, all in all, a first class premise. You will not find anything of that in the Ahwahnee. It is a building with a magnificent... More

It's ironic that Teddy Roosevelt started the National Park system, and he also busted monopolies. Unfortunately, Yosemite National Park is run by a private monopoly with a license from the government. We had a midweek room reservation for Wednesday and Thursday nights at the Ahwahnee. We checked in at 4 PM on Wednesday and were told we could only eat... More
