Really the only way to see Yosemite Valley in peak season is to camp there or stay in the Ahwahnee as traffic in and out of the Valley is so heavy. If you are budget-minded, after a night at Ahwahnee switch to the Wawona. Moderately priced, decent food, less crowded and gives another view of this enormous National Park.

We loved our visit to Yosemite Park. However, even though The Ahwahnee Hotel has such a great historical feel, it was not worth over $500 for one night. The view from our room was spectacular. Food in Yosemite was very expensive too. The staff was friendly and helpful. The room with two double beds is tight for a family of... More

Visited the Awahnee with wife and son (3 year old), following a gap of some 14 years since we were on honeymoon. Stayed in a cabin as we had done on our honeymoon. What's changed? Sadly, very little. We loved our first visit (except for the outdated dress code for men at dinner time - which has now been modified)... More

This was the splurge of our 2 week honeymoon. For the price we paid for 2 nights, we could have paid for just about all of the other nights. We decided to stay here because of the location, and because it was our honeymoon (otherwise we'd never justify the price). The location can't be beat, and it is a gorgeous... More

Stayed at the Ahwahnee as we wanted to maximise our time in Yosemite, and the convenience of a decent hotel. After reading some of the reviews here, I was expecting something a little better, but the hotel underwhelmed me. It is clear they are charging $500+/night simply because they can – they are booked up months in advance, this should... More

What a awesome view and location, maybe the best in the U.S.A. But the Ahwahnee cabins need more updating .The bathrooms were updated but thats about all,our cabin smelled of urine. There is a baby changing room and table that seemed to be the source of the smell. They need to rip up the carpet and throw out some of the old furniture.They... This hotel is not great. It's well located in the park, and the complimentary shuttle bus goes straight to the hotel, however the hotel is old and needs a bit of refurbishment. It seems to be the only proper hotel in the park, which means that they can charge what they want basically. We had requested connecting rooms and paid... More

The good points - location, location, location, a beautifully situated hotel which looks lovely from the outside and duly historic inside. Great doormen, bell hops and reception staff very helpful and attentive. The bad points - expensive for the size, quality and decor of the room, bed could be more comfortable, but I guess you are paying for the location... More

This hotel is not worth its price. Although the hotel enjoys an unbeatable location and the main building is beautiful, its condition leaves a lot to be desired. The rooms and bathrooms are outdated and the sheets, curtains towels and bedspreads look at least 10 years old. Matresses are old and that does not help with the quality of the... More

We stayed in The Ahwahnee for 2 nights and although we had a great visit to Yosemite we were very disappointed with the hotel standards. We stayed in a "cabin" in the grounds so we loved the idea. However, we found cobwebs, some of the lights weren't working, the light shades were dirty, the door and window blinds were shockingly... More
