The Ahwahnee is a grand old hotel. We stayed in one of the separate cottages, and were quite pleased -- it gave us enough room with two grown kids. The hotel and grounds are tremendous. The best reason to stay here, though, is the park itself. And by being here, you avoid having to go in and out of the... More

I've been going to Yosemite since the 1960s as a kid. i've always stayed in the camp grounds or Housekeeping or Curry Village. I've always coveted The Ahwahnee -- have had many meals and cocktails there, but could never justify spending that much money on a room. Well, this year my generous sister splurged for all of us ... Lovely historic hotel in great location! You won't have all the tourists crowds around all day, even if there are people who will visit the hotel it really empties out in the evenings and mornings. It is at the end of the valley and takes you away from the Summer traffic that can get on your nerves in Yosemite Valley.... More

20 contributions in, this is the most difficult to write to date. I am not sure whether I absolutely love this hotel or whether I feel ripped off. The location is outstanding and it is a hugely historic environment but I had significant difficulty getting over the fact that I was paying $540 a night for a $150 hotel room.... More

We booked a room last minute because we wanted to visit friends who were camping in Yosemite. I called several times the day before to find out if there were any cancellations and Francis, the reservationist who answered the phone hung up on both my husband and myself after we asked if there were any rooms available. "We are fully... More

This hotel has three main things going for it. Location, Location, Location. Our group of 9 had 5 rooms and stayed 3 nights. Nice rooms, comfortable beds and pillows, nice bathroom, big flat screen (if you go to Yosemite to watch 2 dozen analog channels on a 42” LCD you would probably like this hotel so skip the rest of... We stayed there with our two teenagers. The beds are small but comfortable (twins) so be hesitant with a large family of four. The rooms are nice but don't expect a 5 star look from the 5 star money. Good wi-fi reception in the room and the tv had good options. The air/heat controls are rather old and touchy. The... More

My husband and I traveled to Yosemite to celebrate our 25th anniversary. We planned a week-long stay in tYosemite, which included a one-night stay at the Ahwahnee on our final night in the park. Oh, I wish we could have afforded to stay longer! What a treat it was to spend even one night in this historic building! We arrived... More

Location, location, location. After a hard day in the Park there is no comparable option for retreating to small luxuries and, most importantly, a long shower and a very comfortable air conditioned night's sleep in a good bed. No, you won't justify the cost, the service is average and everything is a little weary but there is a magic to... More

It is not cheap but worth every penny. Spurge if you can, you won't be disapointed. You are walking through history as you roam this interesting building. They have done a fantastic job keeping the unbelievable building close to the origonal way it appeared many, many decades ago. But it all has been updated with modern amenties where they can....
