We just finished a 2 1/2 week stay at Slough Creek Campground. Words and pictures cannot do justice to this place! It is small and "rustic" with only vault toilets for "facilities", but the vault toilets are clean and except for perhaps 2 times when we used the toilets, they were odorless. We had site #1 which is a large... More

It's hard for tent campers to find a place in Yellowstone that isn't overrun with RVs. That's the main reason why Slough Creek is my favorite camp in the park. We stayed there three nights in early September, and 80 percent of the campers were fellow tenters. The best sites for tenters are "walk-in" designated and along the creek (sites... More

In June I was at Slough before 7 am to nab the first vacant spot. There is an approximately 2 mile washboard, dirt road into the campground, which is located conveniently near Lamar valley for great wildlife viewing, especially seeing wolves. I saw badgers along the entrance road. There is a beautiful fisherman's and walker's path along the creek which I... More

This campground was great! Get there between 8am and noon if you want a spot. If you see anyone breaking down their site just politely ask if they are leaving and then grab one of the reservation tags and clip it to the pole on the site. There is a constant but non-invasive ranger presence and they are all friendly.... More

We stayed in Yellowstone for a week in July of 2011... we live in Michigan and drove there nonstop for 23 hours so when we finally got to Montana (6:00 am) we just headed for the nearest campground we could find so we could finally rest, which happened to be Slough Creek... The campground was full when we got there,... More

Camping doesn't get better than this! Stayed here for 4 nights and enjoyed every minute of it. PROS: 1. Clean Vault Bathrooms - Ive experienced disasters in vault bathrooms before... but these were maintained very well. 2. River side camping - Most campsites are along the river. Soothing sounds of the flowing river at night. Very cold water! 3. Excellent... More

We stayed in Slough Creek campground for two nights in mid August, 2011. It's a first come first serve campground but fortunately we got one riverside spot even after arriving there at around 11 am in the morning. There are these yellow slips which you need to fill up and attach a part of it at the respective campsite as... More

long hike to 2nd and 3rd meadow but well worth the effort. fished hoppers, adams, caddis and wound up with 10-12 fish throughout the day. if you are not in shape, do not consider packing into the campground!

Camp above the river if you are staying at the Campground, the higher the number the better. ONly plan on hiking back to the 2nd & 3rd meadow if you are in excellent shape. All reviews say it is an easy hike, but it is much more difficult than promoted. Fishing is for the extremly experienced. Only 2 fish caught... More
