We spent a week and had no problems in the cabin but the exterior had trash scattered around and when a dog got into our trash bin, I called the desk and it took a half a day to partially pick up and a day to empty outside trash after a call. Not sure owner or management on site but... More

Recommended by the U.S. Customs agent when we crossed the border.....this was an excellent place to stay and eat dinner. Janine, Manager, was exceptionally friendly and helpful and our server, Tracy, made our dinner a very fun and relaxed experience. Would highly recommend this place to stay for an extended period.

Wanted to stay close to Voyageurs, searched websites & reviews to find what seemed to be a more updated lodge than others in the area. Pictures and reviews can be very misleading. I get that it's mainly a fishing lodge, but we stayed in the lodge itself, not a cabin, & expected a little more. Carpets in hallways haven't been... More

Overall it was a pleasant experience staying here primarily because of the views of the lake and the very helpful staff. However, the rooms and especially the bathrooms are very dated. I suspect that it is designed more to house fishermen than tourists. The restaurant has a lovely view of the lake.

Enjoyed the lake views from our room - be sure to buy some Deet Mosquito Spray! Blueberry pancakes with more blueberries than cake were fantastic! Staff worked around clock to sandbag for flood waters, but made us comfortable our entire week's stay! Beds very comfortable with nice shower, too. When ready to check out, desk staff was so helpful to... More

I start this review with the mantra: "You get what you pay for." With the Thunderbird, what you're mainly paying for is the view/location. It is very close to Voyageurs National Park, and is right on Rainy Lake, so the views are lovely. Yes, the lodge itself is "tired", as many others have said. Noise carries easily between rooms and... We stayed here in January 2014 with members of my son's hockey team. The place is dirty and dated (nothing like in the pictures on their website, as it appears we are missing furniture), our rooms did not have the 2 queen beds as per our confirmation letter, there was a weird buzzing sound cycling on-off allllll day and night,... We have our favorite choices, mine is the walleye almondine, our son's is the filet mignon - he claims it is better than the one I grill at home. The wait staff will anticipate preferences for regulars. The view is one of the best on the lake, and ever changing with the seasons.

We decided to celebrate Mothers Day in International Falls - a halfway point for us coming almost from the Northwestern Corner of Minnesota and our daughter coming from close to Duluth. It was a beautiful day for a drive and made the more so at our arrival at Thunderbird Lodge. My wife and I made ourselves comfortable on the front... More
