My husband and I have been visiting the Hawaiiana Hotel for 10 years now. We are from New Zealand and live in the country, so crowds are not really our thing. We can honoustly say that if there was no longer a Hawaiiana Hotel we would not bother to visit Hawaii again. It is the last truely Hawaiian gem left.... more

The room and the location in the hotel looked like there should have been crime scene tape. Cement block walls. Decor that would be unacceptable in a college dorm. I wouldn't even go barefoot on the floors. Terrible street noise. Thin, frayed drapes that let in all the outside light and night -- and there was a lot of it.... more

From what I hear, the Hawaiiana has changed from a quant Hawaiian getaway to a student's rooming house. They now rent the front 3 buildings out full time to students!!!! I went to Hawaiiana Hotel on June 23rd 2009 this was my first trip to Hawaii. The rates for this hotel are extremely cheap that being said cant really expect much. The location is good except that the construction site next door starts work at 7am. Because one wall of the room is a screen (good for natural ventilation, bad for soundproofing) there is no escaping the noise. I just returned from my second stay at the Hawaiiana. Christy and I were thrilled with the service and attention given us by Lisa and Christiana and their staff. It's a little jewel hidden beneath the chrome and concrete of Waikiki. Close to everything, but in it's own secluded beautiful little world. We'll certainly return. more
