We absolutely love the Hale Koa. This is a fantastic hotel right in the heart of Waikiki beach. The property is absolutely fantastic; lots of open green space (since Fort DeRussy is so large, and the hotel doesn't cover everything), awesome pools for families or just adults, perfect Barefoot Bar, lots of restaurant options, great staff, and great rooms. This... More

First off, the Hale Koa is a hotel reserved for active and retired military, as well as their guests. Because of my brother-in-law (20 year Navy vet), we were scheduled to stay the second half of our Oahu vacation here. A messed-up VRBO reservation (or lack of reservation) and we ended up staying the whole week here. Boy are we... More

This hotel is a Military Hotel so you need a family member in the military to reserve a room for you. The higher their rank the more the room costs. I have gone from $ 114 a night to $140 a night now. They have lots of military weddings and events which are great to view. Going again in July.

We arrived on a Thursday in Hawaii and a short taxi ride later we arrived at the Hale Koa. The hotel sits right next to the Hilton Hawaiian Village area but just like many Hawaiian hotels and resorts the open lobby and reception areas let you know you aren’t in Kansas anymore. Throw in the wonderful trade wind breezes and... More

Military and military (civilian) employees only. Family-friendly, clean and safe. The beach, the beach bar, and the restaurants are open to all. The beach bar has a discount for eligible patrons (very nice!). There is an excellent Exchange with (relatively) good prices on cheap souvenirs, nice souvenirs, and any necessities for the beach or the room. We had a mixed... More

I have stayed here probably six times, and its only drawback is the limitation to military (active and retired) and some civil servants. It was built and maintained from the profits of Exchanges and Commissaries throat the military bases. (This but one of four or five Rest and Relaxation facilities, worldwide.) the two high-rises were built on an old Army... More

From the moment we checked in to the time we left, it was one outstanding experience. The pool side personnel, the waiters & waitresses were very customer service oriented individuals. The folks at the gift shop were extremely helpful in assisting us with items we could not find. Looking forward to our next visit!

This hotel, for military with ID cards, is a well kept secret. I would rank it against any 5 star property. Located at the best location on Waikiki, it is a must but book very early to get the choice accommodations. It's right on the beach with separate pools for adults and family (kids).

We stayed in Hale Koa from March 22 to March 29. Some areas were under renovation but that did not take away from our vacation. Nice, clean & comfortable rooms. Central location - many restaurants and stores just within walking distance. If you don't feel like going out, they have nice stores and restaurants inside the property too. We bought... More
