Staff are friendly. Overall though, I think this hotel does not stand up to its reputation. It sort of claims to be one of the grand hotels of years ago...and maybe it was grand...then. But it seems a bit rundown now. Lobby is quite small, as is the bar and restaurant. I was really surprised and thought I was missing... more

My wife and I recently stayed at this property, as it was a host hotel for a wedding. It served as a great place for a first visit to Newport. We were impressed with the service, facility, and location. We will definitely return. The hotel is located right in the heart of the town. It is within a brisk walking... more

Having seen the photos on the hotel website we were looking forward to some luxury. However our room was in the "motel" part of the hotel and the carpet edge was frayed, the door was loose in the frame and the loo and shower were separate from the sink! Most unhygenic! The bathroom was very basic and the tiles were... more

My husband and I booked Hotel Viking through Priceline and were excited to get a room for much less than what we would have paid if we booked through the hotel. Thank goodness we didn't pay full price, because it quickly became a joke between us that we were placed in the "Priceline Wing". Hotel Viking is a beatiful old... more

Our room had a small couch in addition to the fireplace and large flat screen television mounted above. Large, comfortable king bed with wonderful linens. Room is very tastefully appointed. The bathroom was small but wonderful. Loved the walk in shower. In room snacks are very pricey! more

Make sure you are not staying on the "Newport" side of the hotel. It feels like a much cheaper hotel. The main hotel is beautiful, a bit noisy because it is a very old building. We had noisy neighbors, but the hotel staff kindly upgraded us for our discomfort. more

The Hotel Viking is a marvellous hotel - my girlfriend and I stayed in the newer part which, although quite a walk from the reception, was very nice. The room was pleasant and clean although the corridors did at times feel more like a motel. The hotel had unfortunately failed to meet our request to have a king size bed,... more

We stayed at this hotel in October 2009 for one night. The hotel check in staff were very helpful as were the valets. Although other reviews mentioned that velet parking was $25 per night, we were not charged. If you stay at the hotel, request a room in the oldest part of the hotel, the rooms and bathrooms are smaller,... more

Went here to meet some colleagues. Was excited at first as the website shows some great photos of the rooms and decor throughout. My room on the 3rd floor was old and had that old carpet odor. Ok so I'll deal, on further inspection the walls were patched in a rather shoddy manner, and the bathroom was really old (white... more

Small rooms, cramped shower, and noisy. Restaurant is good and the staff was very nice, but they can't make up for having to overpay for this facility. Been to Newport several times and there are other places to stay at the the same price that are much better. more
