My wife and I the l stepped back into history the past 3 nights nestled in this cozy B & B located one block from Thames St. For those of you not familiar with Thames St., it is the heartbeat of Newport with shops, restaurants and clubs for all tastes. Boat charters abound. If you're looking for something really upscale,... more

My husband surprised me with a weekend in Newport, he could not have picked a better place for us to celebrate our 27th wedding anniversary. Priscilla and Bob were delightful hosts. Priscilla serves up a harty breakfast; there's always their home made bake granola, their own specialty coffee, muffins, juice, fruite and of coarse a hot entree. The breakfast is... more

We stayed at the Melville House during the Winter Festival in Newport. Priscella & Bob were great hosts - Bob greeted us when we arrived, along with their dogs, and provided us with all the necessary information. The house was very warm and comfortable, and was decorated in the colonial period of the house. The location is excellent. It is... more

We found this bed and breakfast in the AAA book a few years ago. We have stayed there 4 times now. The first time we stayed there by ourselves but each time since we have brought different family members and everyone has raved about the place and have said they can't wait to return for another visit. The last time... more

We were in New England for the fall foliage and touring around. We had booked for two nights at Melville House but added on an extra night - says it all! First of all to get free parking in such a central location which meant that almost everything was within walking distance and you could ditch the car was heaven.... more

We just had a very enjoyable 2 night stay at the Melville House. The inn is beautifully kept .Priscella and Bob (the owners) give attention to every detail. We stayed in room #7 which was decorated in a blue colonial motif. The room and in suite bathroom was immaculate. The common rooms are nicely decorated and cozy. Snacks, fruit and... more

I stayed in room #6 at the Melville for 2 nights in July. This was my first B&B experience. We usually stay at "unique" properties instead of chain hotels, but I was travelling alone and wanted to do something different as a treat. I loved every minute of my stay with Bob, Pricilla, and the dogs Emma and Hannah! The... more

First the strong points: Location---you can't beat the Melville for their mid-town address--- with off street parking!! Walk to everywhere, except maybe (?) the beach at 1 1/4 mi away. The B'Fast is just like all others have raved about---VERY good, plenty of it---topped by a delicious hot entree'. Hosts are very accessible, knowledgable and helpful .They also offer a... more

Just had a girls weekend in Newport. We stayed at the Melville House - Bob and Priscilla are great and very hospitable. Priscilla makes an AMAZING breakfast! The granola is homemade and they also sell bags of it, which I recommend! The Mooring restaurant was really good - we heard the lobster rolls were amazing and they were - probably... more

My husband, I and our close friends just got back from a very relaxing and fun weekend at The Melville House. We found them on their website and were pleasantly surprised when we got there. The hosts, Priscilla and Bob, made us feel right "at home." We especially enjoyed the decor of the 1750 Colonial Inn. The rooms were extremely... more
