I stayed here a few years ago, and hoped to be able to return to Newport at some time. Some business brought me close by, and was fortunate enough to return to Wayside, and the room that I had the last time. Don has retired, but his sister, Lorraine, is running the B&B now. She is a worthy succesor, friendly,... More

When we pulled up we were a bit surprised at the run down look of the bed and breakfast. Upon entering we felt it was out of a scene from a horror movie with the typical creepy music from an old radio, old furniture and a huge fireplace, like the one in the movie Haunted Mansion. BUT after seeing our... More

A group of 5 of us stayed at the Wayside for a night in September 2013 as there was not much else to choose from, and were not as pleased as others posting here. Don and his sister were an absolute pleasure to deal with and I can't speak higher of them, but the property itself needs an overhaul. We... More

My stay at the Wayside was great, it's a lovely place and close to all the main spots in Newport, I a car and drove to most places, but you can sure walk to the town, I liked to hung around the waterside but you can also walk there. My room was large, clean and bed super comfortable. The room... More

Wayside for my wife and me was an excellent choice. The room we were in number 3 was large immaculate and very nice to stay in. The ourside of the guest house does need some sprucing up but the inside we found to be in nice condition. The owner/host Don was very friendly and we had some interesting conversations. Breakfast... This was a good stay but since I could only choose average or very good, I went with very good. ****Please note that they do not take credit cards! Only cash or check. We found this out as we were checking out and luckily had a check. The location is great as it is about 1 1/2 blocks from The... More

I've been coming to Newport for the past 10 years and after I discovered Wayside it became my second home. If you are the type that comes to hotels to watch TV all day and eat in the room, looking for Hilton/Sheraton/Clubmed type of experience, I'd say this place is not for you. Simply because it has character, is unique... More

We loved our recent visit to Newport including our 4 day stay at the Wayside Inn. Don Post prides himself on repeat business and is so helpful and accommodating. He advised us on all the great restaurants, walks and mansions in the area. My husband and I plus 2 grown up daughters stayed in the 2 bedroom apartment at the... More

This "mansion experience" is well past its prime. You are met with a weed-filled front lawn and paint peeling off the shutters and beat-up windows. Upon entering, you'll see a once-stately grand staircase with green shag carpet covered with stains. Breakfast is a "fresh" fruit salad and old cereals in tupperware containers. There is a pool and the rooms are... More

Really sorry you didn't enjoy your stay at the Wayside . Had you come to me with your complaints I may have been able to help you I keep shampoo & hair dryers for my guests use for the asking . Our cereals are fresh and package in air tight containers , not Tupperware. As for the weedy front yard... More

This is not a "Botique Inn" and therefore you are not paying "Botique Prices", but what you will find is a lovely old authentic inn with beautiful warm woods and esqusite architectural details in the entrance and several of the rooms. The Library Room has wonderful architectural finishings, a four poster bed, beautiful built in bookshelve &, french doors to... More
