I've been coming to Newport for the past 10 years and after I discovered Wayside it became my second home. If you are the type that comes to hotels to watch TV all day and eat in the room, looking for Hilton/Sheraton/Clubmed type of experience, I'd say this place is not for you. Simply because it has character, is unique... More

We loved our recent visit to Newport including our 4 day stay at the Wayside Inn. Don Post prides himself on repeat business and is so helpful and accommodating. He advised us on all the great restaurants, walks and mansions in the area. My husband and I plus 2 grown up daughters stayed in the 2 bedroom apartment at the... More

This "mansion experience" is well past its prime. You are met with a weed-filled front lawn and paint peeling off the shutters and beat-up windows. Upon entering, you'll see a once-stately grand staircase with green shag carpet covered with stains. Breakfast is a "fresh" fruit salad and old cereals in tupperware containers. There is a pool and the rooms are... More

Really sorry you didn't enjoy your stay at the Wayside . Had you come to me with your complaints I may have been able to help you I keep shampoo & hair dryers for my guests use for the asking . Our cereals are fresh and package in air tight containers , not Tupperware. As for the weedy front yard... More

This is not a "Botique Inn" and therefore you are not paying "Botique Prices", but what you will find is a lovely old authentic inn with beautiful warm woods and esqusite architectural details in the entrance and several of the rooms. The Library Room has wonderful architectural finishings, a four poster bed, beautiful built in bookshelve &, french doors to... More

Just got back from another wonderful visit to Newport and The Wayside. You cannot want nicer, friendlier and more helpful people than Don Post and family. The rooms each have a distinct decor and antiques and are different sizes. They are clean and comfortable and cheerful. A lovely breeakfast awaits you each morning as you watch the birds outside the... More

Attending my class reunion out of town, I booked a room at the Wayside Guest House in Newport. I wanted to be able to walk to all the local attractions and still be in the middle of history. I checked it out on line and made the reservations. Upon arrival, it was just as I expected, a grand old home... More

My husband and I went to Newport for Labor Day weekend in 2011. The trip was just beyond amazing and we loved staying at Wayside Guest House. I read some comments that the house is 'old' but you would only expect that from a place that was built in 1800's! The innkeeper is a great guy, very helpful, knowledgeable about... More

Although staying in a mansion has a unique appeal, this property needs a lot of work. The website photos are very deceiving. We noticed that sad fact as soon as we pulled into the driveway - peeling paint, shabby front lawn, and a dark entrance - which killed our enthusiasm. When we entered the lobby area, the house was dark... More

Every time when we come to Newport we stay at this Inn. It has everything one would dream about:: convenient location, large air conditioned comfortable rooms with really good bed and a delicious breakfast. We picked this bed and breakfast because it was a converted mansion on "Mansion Avenue". Built in the late 1800's, it had a lot of the details of the time -- you could see what it might have been like to live in that time. There were high ceilings, huge rooms, beautiful moldings. It wasn't a fancy place, and it... More
