Its not a luxury hotel so know that going in. The rooms are small but clean. Location good as waterfront within easy walking distance although neighborhood, while not dangerous, has a couple of bars right nearby and not sure I would want to walk around there late at night.

Christopher greeted us with a batch of warm cookies and that was the beginning of a lovely stay in Newport, RH. The front porch was a wonderful place to enjoy a glass of wine and some cheese and crackers after a day of walking and touring. Christopher's recommendations for dinner were perfect. The breakfast was quick, easy and satisfying. The... More

Dear Christie P: I'm happy to hear you enjoyed so many aspects of your stay. Thank you for your kind words and for recognizing Christopher in particular. He is a new addition to the Jailhouse team this summer and works very hard (as does the entire staff) to provide knowledgeable, helpful, friendly service to all our guests. He's also a... More

We stayed there at the end of May for our 25th anniversary and had a wonderful time. Our room was large and everyone was very friendly. Especially Toni the handyman who then set us up with the sister place on Martha's Vineyard for the weekend ! Never imagined we could get in such a nice place on such short notice.We... More

Dear Lori R -- Thank you for staying with us at the Jailhouse Inn and then at our sister property, the Pequot Hotel, on Martha's Vineyard! Tony (our head of maintenance and engineering) was very happy to make that suggestion, and we're all glad it worked out. In both locations, we seek to provide a central, walkable experience in a... My 3 friends and I recently spent a weekend in Newport, & needed a room with 2 full size beds, which were hard to find in a town full of inns & B&B's typically offering only rooms with 1 king or queen bed. The Jailhouse Inn had the perfect size room for our group of four. The space was sparsely... More

Yes, we have a variety of sleeping accommodations here at the Jailhouse from 1-queen, 2-queen, to 1-king. We also have several "split" rooms where the two beds are... More

Having been to Newport several times, we had tried other places including a chain hotel. On our first Newport visit, we only made it one night in the chain hotel after stumbling upon this inn. We couldn't have made a better choice. The history of the place is awesome, and so are the old bars still left in the place.... More

Over Easter, we made our annual trek to Newport, but decided to try a different lodging option (see Hyatt Newport) from where we usually stay. I had seen this hotel many times, and my husband's interest was piqued, so we booked. I am so glad we did! The room was spacious (with two adults and two teens, it can get... More

We stayed in April before the crowds and with a special price on the room. Such a great choice! The room was large, comfortable, and clean; self-serve breakfast excellent; and the staff is wonderful, friendly, and helpful. The front porch is also lovely. It is a short, easy walk to the docks and historic town buildings, but you have to... More

Charming inn that is centrally located. The staff is extremely helpful and friendly!!!! Rooms are nicely sized, very clean and very well decorated. The only recommendation I have for the hotel is to have nicer quality pastries for the breakfast ( but I am super picky with food).

As the name suggests this small and quirky hotel is indeed the old town jail. They still have lots of features from the jail around the place. It has a nice atmosphere. Our stay at jailhouse Inn was a very pleasant surprise: we made a stop in Newport on our way to Cape Cod and didn't expect much from a place this inexpensive, instead we found a very clean environment, a suggestive decor and a superfriendly staff (from putting up a pack 'n play to washing and drying the carseat cover for...
