Our stay at Shadow Mountain Escape The warmest of welcomes awaited us from Karen at Shadow Mountain Escape and the first thing we appreciated was the total peace and quiet except for the twittering of the birds, the knocking of the woodpecker and the burble of the stream on the woodland walk. Our lodge, “Dragonfly” was a delight – beautifully... more

The only words I can think of to describe this wonderful place! Absolutely fantastic! Such a wonderful place to relax and absorb so much beauty! I spent my life in hotels and very little time at home. Our stay here was the best of both worlds’ travel to a new location, and still feeling at home! Karen and Ralph will... more

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Butterfly loft. The goodies and wine were delicious. The lodge was delightful. We used our rainy day to visit Luray Caverns - which was like Bryce Canon - but underground. Thursday we were surprised to find snow in the Shenandoah National Park. It didn't last long and brought the deer to the roadsides... more

My girlfriend and I recently celebrated our 10-year anniversary by spending 2 nights at Shadow Mountain Escape. We were greeted by Karen (who was amazing!) when we arrived, and she showed us the Butterfly Loft. She had left wine and homemade cookies for us, which was a great touch! The property was beautiful, especially with all the snow. The loft... more

What an enchanting and romantic cabin! So intimate and inviting that we felt like we were falling in love again. We stayed 4 days in the Butterfly Loft Cabin at Shadow Mt. Escape. Everything was prepared for our stay and to celebrate our 34th Anniversary. As we entered the cabin, there was a 'goody' basket on the kitchen table, filled... more

Such a quiet and beautiful property. The cabin was clean and warm, just like we walked into our own home. From the welcome into our cabin, feeding the fish, and the coolest cat.. We LOVED every moment there. The beauty of the fireflies and wild life were amazing. Thank you Karen and Ralph for making our honeymoon unforgetable. more

The host of this property (Karen) is one of the most pleasant people I have talked to....she is exceptional. As far as the property goes - we stayed in the butterfly loft and were underwhelmed......the room was slightly musty and an annoying perfumed cleaner had been used to mask the smell. The sofa bed was terrible and the queen bed... more

. Please add us to your group of “happy campers” Everything far exceeded our expectations for our family reunion. Your facilities easily accommodated our group of 15, ages 1 to 72. It was nice that the lodge offered us the perfect blend of individual privacy and common areas for gatherings. The timber framed lodges were beautiful, clean, exquisitely appointed and... more

Our family (2 adults, 3 teenagers -- 2 of which came with us) lives in a timberframe house in Ohio, so Shadow Mountain's unique luxury cabins felt like home away from home for us. Everything was easy and comfortable, including our initial booking (I e-mailed Karen through her website and received a reply minutes later). We stayed in the Dragonfly,... more

I saw these cabins almost by accident on the internet, but "wow"! What a find! I was hoping to find a nice place to take my bride on our honeymoon, but this cabin went far beyond any expectations! It was absolutely perfect and the treats they left us were so delicious! What an incredible get-a-way for us both, & their... more
