What a fabulous location, butting up against the Shenandoah National Park and Shenandoah Valley, a few minutes drive from Luray and the most extraordinary caverns. The accommodation was great. We stayed in the Bumblebee cabin which was wonderfully comfortable and with everything we needed. Karen and Ralph were excellent hosts, very helpful in our planning, and making us very welcome... Nestled in the foothills at the western edge of the Shenandoah National Forest, we found Shadow Mountain Escape's luxurious cabin to be an ideal couples' getaway. The traditional timber frame construction and fabulous blend of German farmhouse/hunting lodge furnishings of the spacious two-story Bumble Bee cabin brought back memories of our own European travels. Ralph and Karen Riddle are gracious... More

We stayed here for two nights and I wish it would have been longer. I live in Virginia and I have been to many cabins. This one is in the best location if you are going to hike or go to the national park, Luray caverns, or any one of the quaint small towns around there. It's clean, Has everything... More

The owners are very friendly and will leave you alone to enjoy your stay. The cabins are beautiful, clean and have a relaxed home feeling. Lots of great hikes in the area from easy to intense with magnificent views. We plan to return soon, highly recommended.

You will be pleasantly surprised with your stay at Shadow Mountain Escape. It is truly an escape to mountain paradise. It is just like the website portrays. The cabins are exquisitely unique in a refreshing ambience. As hosts, Karen and Ralph are the best. They anticipate your needs before arriving. Two thumbs up for this oasis!!

Shadow Mountain is a secluded oasis, yet it's less than a 2-hour's drive from DC. The cabins (designed by their architect/owner) are a perfect blend of Blue Ridge Mountains coziness and Italian Alps chic. Our hosts, Ralph and Karen, could not have been more welcoming, and Karen's baked goods are to die for! While we were there, we took a... More

SME WOW!!! Where do I begin? From the first email exchange to our arrival, evertything was seamless. Karen was so warm and welcoming; we stayed in the Bumble Bee cabin which was georgeous and clean. The love Karen and Ralph have for SME shows 100% in these cabins and their hospitality. The beauty and artistry of the Timber Frame architecture... More

Every positive review you read about what a great place this is are true. Karen and Ralph are special people that made us feel at home and we wanted to stay longer than the time we had booked. We stayed in the Bumblebee Cabin and just loved the peace and tranquility. Be sure to follow their advice and use the... More

Shadow Mountain Inn is a delightful, private, well appointed spot. Decorated with all of their finds during their time in Germany and Italy, the Inn has an almost "old world" feel. Karen and Ralph are gracious, unobtrusive owners who are there as much as you need them. Our cabin was perfect. We had a beautiful view of the grounds from... More
