My wife and I stayed for two nights in the Butterfly Cabin. The entire property is very secluded and serene. We had deer and other wildlife outside our window daily. Karen was available as needed, but respected your privacy. We would love to return again.

Overall: Stayed in the "Butterfly" cabin. Very clean, very private. Cabin is within sight of a few other cabins, but not so close as to feel crowded. Owners were extremely friendly and welcoming. Owners gave great directions to plently of local things to do, as well as some great restaurants. Cabin: the Butterfly Cabin was very clean and private. It... More

Nestled in the mountains, near the base of the Shenandoah National Park and minutes from Luray Caverns. This is a perfect escape from work and life stress. Being out here makes it easy to "unplug" and just relax, but they do have wi-fi if you just have to connect :-) We were welcomed with fresh baked cookies (Delicious!) and a... More

We stayed at Shadow Mountain Escape the first weekend of November 2013 and had such a lovely time. We stayed in the Butterfly cabin, and it was beautiful and clean with a lot of nice small touches, like extra blankets, hiking maps, nice coffee mugs, wine, homemade goodies (cookies, cake, and biscotti), marshmallows for the campfire, and even pizza delivery... This was such a perfect place to enjoy my 26th birthday. It was so perfect - from the ladybug cabin and it's peacefulness to the magical hiking to hear the Christmas bells to the Gadino Winery and Griffin Tavern dinner ....it was all so perfect. We even lit my birthday candles by the fire and toasted marshmallows such wonderful lasting... More

We just returned from a 3 night stay for my wife's birthday in the Butterfly located above the Salt Barn. Having stayed in multiple cabins over the years all over the Blue Ridge, Shadow Mountain Escape is by far the greatest experience we have ever had. The complimentary birthday cake that was waiting for my wife upon arrival was so... More

Our cell phones didn't work here - nice! We stayed in the Ladybug cabin and found it clean, comfortable and sturdily built. Karen, Ralph, Lola and Felix (with a visiting Cloe thrown in) were lovely and hospitable. Their property is a gem, and the stars on the clear nights we were there were stunning. We hiked Old Rag one morning... More

Another amazing weekend! Janice and I first came to Shadow Mountain Escape a little less than 2 years ago when we first met – today we are back as an engaged couple to relax, enjoy the beauty, and escape from the city. We love the fire, wineries, and the great hospitality. We went to the Luray Christmas parade then enjoyed... More

Karen, Ralph, Lola and Felix thank you for providing such a peaceful retreat for our 30th wedding anniversary. All of the wonderful treats were such a thoughtful touch. Your recommendations were “spot on”. We toured the Luray Caverns, Gadino Winery, Skyline Drive and also took in the Town Christmas Parade. Just good old “country” fun. Loved it all.
