I agree with a previous reviewer. The austerity, remoteness, setting, and your knowledge and history of the original Bishop of Santa Fe all add to the mystique and interest here. But the reality is the upkeep of the property is lacking. We had a problem requiring maintenance, and it was 6 hours before a man arrived. The dinner was unremarkable,... More

I have been to Bishops Lodge for several conferences. The setting and the grounds are very nice. The accommodations are very good. The food was OK. The pool area is also very nice, it's a great place to relax when the sun is out. (which is almost always)

I stayed at Bishop's Lodge back in late April as part of a company retreat. Because of that I did not pay for my room and can't speak to value, but I can give you my impressions and explain why I'd be very reluctant to return on my own. On the surface and at a glance, this property looks amazing.... More

Living in New Mexico (south of Albuquerque in the mountains) we are very aware of the wonderful climate, scenery, and absolutely marvelous environment of the state, especially the higher elevations. We wanted to attend the Santa Fe Opera and so made reservations for it and for the "opera package" at the resort. These were done both on line and via telephone.... More

I have an incredibly stressful job and this resort is my escape. The property is so peaceful and the staff is very accomodating and friendly. I take my children and they love the horses and the pool. The chef is amazing. I highly recommend this resort.

We recently stayed at Bishop's Lodge for three days. It was definitely rustic, but was clean and well maintained. They have four hiking trails and we hiked two of them and took a horseback ride on a third trail. My daughters (ages 12 and 8) had never been on a horse before so this was so much fun for them.... I enjoyed a recent business trip to Bishop's Lodge in Santa Fe for a 2 day conference. The breakfast offered was 'to order' as well as a variety of fresh fruit, cottage cheese, cereal, shredded hash browns, two kinds of sausage, bacon, biscuits and gravy, and waffles. The only thing is that the kitchen staff who replenished the food was... More

I traveled with two daughters (ages 14 and 7). This facility made it easy to accommodate all of our wants/needs. The grounds are very well maintained; the staff is very friendly and helpful; the restaurant is good - a little pricey, not many vegetarian options, but the kids' menu is a great value. Pool/hot tub were clean, well maintained, staffed,... More

This was my first visit to Santa Fe, NM so I was very excited. Went for a meeting at this beautiful resort. After reviewing their website I knew it would be nice but everything was so well done, from the staff to the food and beautiful rooms, I was just very impressed. The things I liked was how hospitable every... More

I stayed with my 9 year old daughter for a night and did a morning horse ride, so this review is for the hotel, the dinner and the ride! Firstly, beautiful hotel. The grounds are immaculate, and the building is stunning. At sunset the restaurant is lit up and it is very atmospheric. We swam in the large, warm pool,... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
In August of 1851, a Frenchman, Jean Baptiste Lamy, arrived in the NM Territory as the first Bishop of Santa Fe. Here he built a private retreat; his chapel still stands today, now on the national register of historic places. After Lamy's Death, the land was acquired by the Pulitzer publishing family as a private vacation retreat. In 1917, the Thorpe family from Denver fell in love with these pristine acres, bought the property and developed the first resort in the state. Today Bishop's Lodge comprises 15 lodges for a total of 110 rooms ranging in sizes from 250 sq feet to 450, not to mention a 2000 sq foot Presidential Suite. Many of our rooms feature fireplaces and the majority all have outdoor access to patios, lawns or balconies. Our ShaNah Spa and Wellness Center which opened up in June of 2002 is a sanctuary where one can take time out to be nurtured by Mother Nature, guided by ancient wisdon and touched by angels. The experience may change your life. Other activities are abundant such as: trap/skeet shooting (offered to groups of 10 or monmre roomnights), horseback, pony trail rides, hiking, mountain biking, fitness center, excercise studio, outdoor pool, whirlpool and tennis to mention a few. Bishop's Lodge is located just 3 miles from the Historic Santa Fe Plaza. Complimentary shuttle service is provided by the lodge at scheduled times daily. ... more   less
