We walked everywhere! To the train station to get to Albuquerque for the Balloon Fiesta, to Starbucks, La Fonda, Georgia O'Keeffe Museum, Cowgirl Cafe, YOU NAME IT! The hotel has recently undergone renovations and has the feel of a monastery - - - very understated and, well, Santa Fe! Outside of Santa Fe we did Buffalo Thunder (great vocalist impersonator... I have stayed at the St. Francis Hotel for over 25 years on many, many occasions. As of this October (2009), the hotel has been remodeled. First the positives.....1). the hotel has great beds, they are super comfortable, 2). the hotel is the best location in Santa Fe and 3). It is in a historic building.......the new remodel improved the... More

Decided to stay at the St. Francis for location. It's within walking distance to many shops and restaurants. Even thought this hotel has been remodeled it is very sparce and not homey at all. The walls are white and the furniture is a bit too rustic. The entry is very uninviting. Our room was tiny and the window gave us... More

This was my third year of staying at the Saint Francis, and I have always loved it. It took me a while to digest my response to the renovation–but I do think it is a significant improvement. As a designer and decorator, I get it, and I give it a thumbs up. It's not for everyone, but if you are... More

We, too, have stayed at this hotel several times over the years. It was easy to overlook a few shortcomings because it was so authentic and historic. Now, though, it has been totally "whitewashed" of all its prior charm. The rooms are tiny, no mirrors, very poor lighting, and they put in a huge wardrobe chest that takes up at... More

I have stayed at this hotel for 10 years. The new owner renovated the hotel so that it took all of the charm away and it now looks just like any other highway hotel. They also missed on some basic elements of a good hotel room -- lighing so dim you can't read, no full length mirror, furniture doors that... More

My husband and I have stayed at St. Francis for many years. We last stayed there in March and dropped by in August 2009 because we were anticipating our next stay. I was shocked when I saw the lobby. It's old charm is completely gone. It is an expanse of gray tile. I had hoped that because it is an... More

They failed to inform us that they were undergoing a major renovation with such little ammenities available. Nothing like waking up early to the sounds of vacuum cleaners and construction. In addition we paid $19 for parking and there was not a space available due to vendors parking in the spots.

The best thing about this hotel is the location. You can't get a better one. We got a good rate and enjoyed our stay. If the rate had been much more, I might have been disappointed. Here are the pros and cons. Pros-Great Location! Just renovated so everything is new and clean. Nice staff-the front desk tried hard to help... More

Booked it by chance from Expedia, based on location alone, but was blown away. It looks and feels like something from Seville or Florence: rooms a bit small, but subtle, stylish and classy. And the location was great: just a block from the plaza. Yes, it was still under renovation and the elevator wasn't running, but that was just a... More
