This is an excellent value for the money. It is quite a hike uphill from the marina, so if you have heavy bags, you might want to get the circulating shuttle or a taxi. My room was small. It was absolutely spotless. Even in the tiny micro-full room there is a refrigerator and a microwave. There is a stand-up shower... More

This place is not somewhere you want to stay if your planning on hanging around in a hotel! BUT if all you want is a clean place with a decent bed, shower, etc.. for a night. This is the best value in Friday Harbor. Like spending the night in a motor home. Rated 2 star because that's just bare minimum... More

My better half chose this establishment out of the phone book as a surprise getaway weekend for my birthday. She reserved a room with a king bed for two nights, Friday and Saturday. When we arrived, the buildings reminded me of old military barracks. So we check in and actually go into the room; very small, very dated, with wood... More

I am a single traveling female (38 yrs old) and booked a room here bc it was suggested to me as more inexpensive. I was excited that I was able to get a room within 2 weeks of arrival! (Last minute trip) And at only $64!!! (Plus tax). It was great! I got the smallest room (1 queen bed) but... More

This place is exactly as advertised..."spend a night, not a fortune!" Rooms are small, basic furnishings, but clean and truly the best economical room on the island. Location is a short walk into town....yes, it's uphill from the ferry, but ALL the lodgings in Friday Harbor are uphill from the ferry. Glad we were able to snag a room at... More

Yes yes yes! We couldn't agree more! We're so glad you "get us." And that you stayed with us! We're also pleased you got a chance to truly explore the San Juan Islands and enjoyed the "San Juan Experience." Thanks a bunch! More

Very much enjoyed our stay here. When most hotels are charging $250-$300 on Friday harbor, we didn't expect much when we booked the orca inn. We got off the ferry around noon and found the inn just blocks away. Although it was too early to check in, the lady at the office was super nice and gave recommendations on where... More

Thank you so much for the kind words and positive review! We particularly appreciate that you found our accommodations "charming." While a few 21st century travelers caught up in the "everything should be painted white" mindset don't care for the retro look, there are still travelers like yourself who appreciate a reminder of a gentler and more relaxed era. We're... More

It's so bad it's good...well, maybe not. Typical supply and demand in the San Juans and this one is no different. Crappy, dingy, stench ridden room for overinflated price. I'm currently sitting/attempting to wind down for the night on the floor at the foot of the bed crammed between a makeshift desk/husk while my wife and daughter are squeezed into... More

We're sorry you were dissatisfied with your stay. We dispute the "crappy, dingy, stench ridden room for overinflated price" remark. Our rooms are consistently among the cleanest on the island, as confirmed by so many positive reviews here and elsewhere. We always try to be honest with our guests, particularly about the size of our rooms. Yes, the rooms are... More

The rooms here at the Orca Inn a very small. The buildings are mobile bunkhouses used in Alaska and converted to become a motel. Each room has Ac unit, tube type tv, a little desk, a small stall shower (each room has it's own small water heater). For me I would look further as I like a nicer room. But... More

Thanks for acknowledging that our rooms are very clean. We certainly acknowledge that our rooms are small. In fact, we're considering having t-shirts made that proclaim "I stayed in Washington's smallest hotel room!" Yes, our rooms are very small. It's part of the charm, but more importantly, it's how we're able to keep our rates under $100 when other island... More

Among the nicest and hospitable people you'll find on the San Juan Islands, the management of the The Orca Inn on Friday Harbor stand out like a soar thumb. Morris, the manager, and his wife are the creepy couple that run this hotel. they charged my card over one month before my scheduled stay and four days later deducted $25... More

Well, pretty much what we expected from this guest, and our favorite example of "No good deed goes unpunished." We tried to make special exemptions for the guest, who didn't check out when he agreed to. His items weren't left in the hallway, but were carefully put away in our housekeeping room because we needed to prep the room for... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Spend a night...Not a fortune! It's really simple: Smaller Rooms = Smaller Rates. At The Orca Inn, we are proud to offer the smallest rooms in the state of Washington! Which means we have the lowest hotel room rates on San Juan Island. (Of course, for just a few dollars more, we have larger King and Double Queen rooms). With the money you save, you can spend more on amazing whale watching tours, incredible kayak trips, and other island adventures that you will remember for a lifetime. As Mr. Carson once said, "The business of life is the acquisition of memories." And at the Orca Inn, business is good! ... more   less
