This place is exactly as advertised..."spend a night, not a fortune!" Rooms are small, basic furnishings, but clean and truly the best economical room on the island. Location is a short walk into town....yes, it's uphill from the ferry, but ALL the lodgings in Friday Harbor are uphill from the ferry. Glad we were able to snag a room at... More

Very much enjoyed our stay here. When most hotels are charging $250-$300 on Friday harbor, we didn't expect much when we booked the orca inn. We got off the ferry around noon and found the inn just blocks away. Although it was too early to check in, the lady at the office was super nice and gave recommendations on where... More

It's so bad it's good...well, maybe not. Typical supply and demand in the San Juans and this one is no different. Crappy, dingy, stench ridden room for overinflated price. I'm currently sitting/attempting to wind down for the night on the floor at the foot of the bed crammed between a makeshift desk/husk while my wife and daughter are squeezed into... More

The rooms here at the Orca Inn a very small. The buildings are mobile bunkhouses used in Alaska and converted to become a motel. Each room has Ac unit, tube type tv, a little desk, a small stall shower (each room has it's own small water heater). For me I would look further as I like a nicer room. But... More

Thanks for acknowledging that our rooms are very clean. We certainly acknowledge that our rooms are small. In fact, we're considering having t-shirts made that proclaim "I stayed in Washington's smallest hotel room!" Yes, our rooms are very small. It's part of the charm, but more importantly, it's how we're able to keep our rates under $100 when other island... More

Among the nicest and hospitable people you'll find on the San Juan Islands, the management of the The Orca Inn on Friday Harbor stand out like a soar thumb. Morris, the manager, and his wife are the creepy couple that run this hotel. they charged my card over one month before my scheduled stay and four days later deducted $25... More

Well, pretty much what we expected from this guest, and our favorite example of "No good deed goes unpunished." We tried to make special exemptions for the guest, who didn't check out when he agreed to. His items weren't left in the hallway, but were carefully put away in our housekeeping room because we needed to prep the room for... More

Clean rooms Decent bed Complimentary Sugar cookies Most affordable on San Juan! Keep in mind rooms are small... You will not pay 4 stars cost so you won't get 4 stars amenities.. Come with the correct expectations and you won't be disappoint. If you're on a budget, the inn is for you. The managers- Coni & Morris were great!

The Orca Inn was a quaint little place, perfect for what we needed. It was VERY clean. We booked two rooms for the seven of us, and each room had TWO full bathrooms! We had zero issues with the small hot water tanks (they have signs on each bathroom door about the tanks) because we had our kids shower at... More

Wow! Thanks for the perfect rating and positive review! Staggering showers is a great idea. Most folks have no problem with such conservation techniques. We hope to see you again! More

My wife and I stayed at the Orca Inn last week. We were in transit and looking for lodgings for one night. The Orca was exactly that - a clean room in a convenient spot. The room itself was minuscule and was stuffed with a queen sized bed, mini fridge, microwave, old TV a desk and a stand/table. Not a... More

This place was all that I expected from all the reviews. Small room = double bed, bathroom with a stand up shower, sink and closet are together. Microwave and small dresser, small fridge and dresser...that is it in a nutshell. The staff is very friendly. The bed is new and the window unit Air-conditioner drowns out most of the hall... More

Exactly! Well said! We appreciate your accurate assessment of our small but well-appointed rooms (although we have larger rooms available). You're right about booking up full during high season...we have sold out every weekend this summer! However, because we are the second-largest hotel on the island, we often have rooms when others don't. And we recently implemented a new website... More

I look for affordable, clean accommodation. The Orca was just that and I was happy with my stay. Note the room was very small, in the standard you can only walk on one side of the bed. I spend very little time in my room so it was not an issue. Each room has a small, individual water tank. I... More

Thank you! We are exactly right for those who want to be out and about, enjoying adventures with the whales and seals and eagles. And our low rates allow guests to spend more money on the great restaurants in town (yes, within walking distance of our hotel) and on kayak and whale watch trips. We appreciate you, and your positive... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Spend a night...Not a fortune! It's really simple: Smaller Rooms = Smaller Rates. At The Orca Inn, we are proud to offer the smallest rooms in the state of Washington! Which means we have the lowest hotel room rates on San Juan Island. (Of course, for just a few dollars more, we have larger King and Double Queen rooms). With the money you save, you can spend more on amazing whale watching tours, incredible kayak trips, and other island adventures that you will remember for a lifetime. As Mr. Carson once said, "The business of life is the acquisition of memories." And at the Orca Inn, business is good! ... more   less
