We reserved a one-night stay at the El Tropicano for our night in San Antonio. We made the reservation on a popular hotel search engine. The reviews on that site were positive so we were hopeful. We had a few issues arise. 1. The overall service by the front desk staff was poor, and decor quality was poor as wallpaper... More

When you enter this hotel you feel like you've gone back to the 70s. Not tacky and not dated, Actually some very interesting decor. Room was clean and well appointed. Everyone was very pleasant and helpful. It was very cold when we stayed so it was very nice to have the espresso cafe & the bar grill available. Tried both... More

We stayed at El Tropicano for my wife's birthday and the ambiance was great. The staff was very friendly and the dining room services were on point. We stayed at the very top where we enjoyed the city lights from the top. What a sight to see. We look forward going back when there is warner weather and enjoy the... More

As we drove to this hotel I wasn't to sure about the area around it and then when we got there we went in a side door. I was not impressed... however when we went around the corner into the main lobby my impression of the place immediately improved. The lobby was nice and open and the staff very friendly... More

Friendly staff, nice facilities. A little 1960's Miami Beach style. Close to Riverwalk and town. Good breakfast, great swimming pool. Apparently and allegedly the Rolling Stones once stayed here, they probably had to refurbish the place afterwards.

Working as a vendor at a conference is hard work. Three days of set up, stand up, smile and share, answer questions, count small items take payments and become friends with 300 or more people that want to know me better...now I am tired at the end of a day. All I ask from a hotel is friendliness and a... More

This was probably a really nice hotel in 70s or 80s, but it is showing its age. There is a performance hall nearby, but that is about it. I would not walk back from the Riverwalk to here at night, first, because it is quite a long walk, second, it is a barren part of town. The bathroom was ok,... More

This Hotel is an older property with a lot of history. If you are looking for a modern spot this is not for you. But, if you want a great deal, a clean room, a retro style, in a good location, Give this place a try. I found it clean. Everyone was very friendly. I found no problem with parking.... More

This hotel is NOT in downtown San Antonio. It is about a 20 minute walk from downtown. Beware of its advertisements. A good Italian restaurant is about 3 blocks away. Otherwise, you will need to drive to get anywhere of interest. It advertises that It has a restaurant for lunch and dinner. It has a bar for dinner with light... More

Granted there is an close entrance from the hotel to the riverwalk, but its not the popular side. We ended up taking the alternative of driving closer to the riverwalker and paying for parking, because who wants to walk miles after a couple of ritas. The room had a bad smell like mildew, or just old. The description says newly... More
