This is an older, but well maintained hotel on the river walk. It is a short walk to the central areas of San Antonio, or just hop on the water taxi. All the amenities are here. It is just across the street from the new performing arts center.

Hotels in San Antonio near the river walk can be very very expensive, but el Tropicana isn't at all, and it just a few steps to a river walk entrance! the staff was extra friendly and the in-house restaurant, which we used for breakfasts, was quite adequate. We stayed there a couple of nights. The room was clean and attractive.... More

Room was small, air conditioner worked, but the way it was positioned blew on the bed. Standing on the chair, I could see that the hinges were broken, but I used 2 band aids to put in right position so I would not have the cold air blowing on me when I would try to sleep. The room was clean... More

I know I've written reviews for this hotel before but it just keeps getting better and better. I reserved a room for Wednesday night as we had a flight leaving early (5am) then next morning. I received an email from the manager thanking me for making my reservation online and he said if I needed anything to let him know.... More

My husband and I wanted to take a quick trip for his birthday to San Antonio. When we arrived it seemed like maybe it was going to be okay...the lobby was clean and bright and the staff gave us a warm welcome. Once we made it to our room it was as if we had walked into the twilight zone.... More

My brother and I wanted to take a quick weekend trip to San Antonio. Literally almost everything was booked. We used hotel tonight and El Tropicano seemed like a good option. When we arrived it seemed like maybe a place that used to be thriving in like the 60s? There's a cool latin vibe... but a way dated cool latin... More

We were only in SA for the night & chanced our luck with a Priceline bid. I'll admit I was a bit worried when the name appeared & I had never heard of it but figured oh well we were stuck. When we arrived I was pleased to see the hotel was actually quite nice & clean. At night we... More

From the time we drove up to the time we checked out we loved it. The decor is very eclectic and the history of the hotel is fascinating. Loved sitting outside watching the Riverwalk activity with our cocktails. It is a bit of a walk to restaurants...but it is a beautiful walk we did over and over. If you get... More

Essentially this is a 3/5 (average) hotel, but for what it claims and costs, it's a 2/5 (poor). It's an older hotel (about 52 years old) that has had some nice facelifts, but there are some problems with the bones and guts of the hotel. The rooms are decent enough, but nothing overly special either. They are smallish as other... More

Walking into the lobby is like a time warp back to the 60's. While the room was quite clean, it showed its age - especially the carpet. Wi-fi is provided but really doesn't work from the rooms. Breakfast is as good as any we've had but is certainly not a dining experience. Access to the river walk is just across... More
