Overall the hotel was pretty nice. It had obviously been redecorated recently. The beds and pillow were VERY comfortable and seemed new. Our room was clean, although several people I was staying with had complaints (they were moved to different rooms immediately). My main complaint is just how far it is from anything on the riverwalk. It was also kind... More

On the night of our arrival, there was music playing outside our room, too loud for us to sleep. When we asked the desk for help we were told they did not know how to turn it down. At midnight it stopped, only to begin at 6:30 am. We needed extra towels (only two in the room) and we were... More

I just stayed in this hotel for an entire week and found the staff extremely accommodating. My room was very clean and huge in size. I had a balcony facing the riverwalk where I could sip my coffee and wave to the riverboat travelers. If you google map the hotel, the Riverwalk looks deserted and scary near the hotel but... More

I did my research, so I knew how far it was to the 'heart' of the Riverwalk and intentionally stayed off season and away from the hustle and bustle of the tourist area. I am fond of not wasting money on luxurious hotels, so this was about what I expected. Clean, friendly, not fancy and a good bargain. If you... More

Thank you for reviewing your recent stay with us, off season is a particularly good time to visit San Antonio as the city has decided to only drain the river every other year in early January so there was no interruption in barge service this year and the attractions are less crowded. I appreciate your feedback as it is important... More

I would like to thank Geri for all her help. We were visiting San Antonio for a wedding when diaster almost struck. With great care she managed to help us out and make our stay one of the best memories we have. The rooms were clean, the staff very friendly and the food was good. Every company should have someone... More

It was my wifes birthday so I just had a thought, lets take a weekend trip to San Antonio. I booked our room online, and thought I found a frugal priced room for the location. I was wrong, we pulled into the hotel in it looked as if we where entering a low income housing. The staff, they were okay for... More

I'm sorry you did not enjoy your stay, without more information it is difficult for me to track down the third party travel planner that is advertising a King Suite at the hotel. Suites are only able to be booked directly through the hotel as they are clustered on our 9th floor with separate key access and a private patio... More

i was able to get a great deal for the hotel via priceline, but was concerned about my stay here after reading all of the negative reviews. however, my stay here was a fine and a pleasant surprise. the hotel is older, so it can't be/should not be compared to the newer brand hotels and their decor. with that said,... Thank you for your comments and your visit to San Antonio and El Tropicano. Hopping on the trolley is certainly a great way to get around and hit the local sites including Historic King William and El Mercado and the city has announced plans for trolley service to the renovated Pearl Brewery Complex which is at the end of our... El Tropicano has a decor that fits better in South Beach than in San Antonio. Nothing about the hotel said Texas or San Antonio. Not that being different is a bad thing, just maybe a bit odd. As a previous poster stated, the hotel looks like it was built in the 60s or 70s and hasn't been upgraded since. The... More

Thank you for your comments, the hotel did open in 1962 as the El Tropicano Hotel and offered all the glitz and glamour that San Antonio could handle including the famed Fontana Room with live pink flamingo's! Our local owners who purchased it and did a complete renovation six years ago did an amazing job in bringing El Trop back... More

Stayed here in November of 2011 after purchasing a 3day deal for $99.00. Had never stayed and thought it seemed like something different. The hotel is a very old Holiday Inn that has been partially redone. The lobby area, pool and fitness center were all very nice. The whole downstairs area has a very neat, funky feel. Problem starts when... More

Thank you for your comments regarding your recent stay. I would like to apologize for the musty smell as that is not the norm and that you had problems with your a/c. I found an awesome rate through kayak and snagged two adjacent rooms for our staycation to celebrate my son's 10th birthday! We had a blast! The reception staff was friendly but was not excessively attentive... Which was ok, considering we wanted to be left alone anyway :-) the rooms were trendy and clean, in design and cleanliness. My only drawbacks... More
