I advise people not to listen to the negative reviews listed below... My father and I stayed here for a week, and indeed in the room where you had to lift the door up in order for it to close properly... but you know what? BIG DEAL! The house is old, the property is old, it's in an old area... more

Our stay at the Henry Derby House was one of the best vacations at a B & B. The Host made us feel so welcome. Our first breakfast lasted over two hours. The conversation with the host was so exciting we did not want to leave the table. She has a vast knowledge of the area and throws in her... more

My wife and I drove up to Salem,Ma for a short visit. Before we went I was researching place to stay online and came acrossed the Derby House. It looked nice and quaint so we decided to stay there. I have to say my wife was not too keen on a B&B but she went along with it anyhow. Well... more

The place was not awful in any way, but for your money you hope it would be nicer. As Peg notes, the doors are swollen, and mine was hanging slightly off the hinges and had to be positioned in a certain way to close it. The bed also sank in the middle. The place was clean, but the bathroom looked... more

We had the pleasure of staying at the Henry Derby on March 31 and April 1 of this year. Located in the historic district and close to the downtown area, it was very easy to get around to see the sights of this historic city and Peg the owner was filled with info on what to see and where to... more

We found it ot be very cozy and the hostess Peg to be very welcoming and accomodating. The rooms are very clean and very pretty and true to the time period of the home. The price was good for the location so close to downtown. And the breakfast could hardly be described as continental, with the fresh fruits and bakery items... more

I never write web-reviews -- time-allocation decision -- but while preparing a return visit to the Henry Derby House I came across the quasi-libellous reviews posted below and simply cannot leave them unanswered. Henry Derby is everything you want in a New England bed and breakfast, quirks and all. I was traveling alone, visiting friends in the Salem area. I... more

My sister and I had the misfortune of staying at this B&B for three nights in October. I can only say that William of NYC and his family had a lucky escape. Our tour operator could not book us into a hotel in the area as it was halloween and so I booked it online after reading reviews. I only... more

Every morning at the breakfast table I ask if there are any problems or if I can help in any way. The only issue these women had was with the bathroom being on the first floor and their bedroom being on the second floor. I gave them a bath that adjoined their room and they spoke of being very happy...
