We were in Salem to view the Turner exhibit at the Peabody Essex Museum, so the Hawthorne Hotel seemed like a good choice. We love historic hotels and it was one block from the PEM. We were not disappointed. The lobby, staff, furnishings and breakfast were great. Our waiter, Mathew, seemed a little nervous, but was attentive, friendly and well... More

The rate for the room is way to much. The bathroom has a sewage smell , they sent someone to look at it and he sprayed aerosol scent to cover it up. The doors between the rooms don't close or lock. My son opened the sofa bed and found chewed gum under the mattress. The coffee pot had old coffee... More

We enjoy staying in a bed & breakfast or a historic hotel. The Hawthorne was perfect for our stay in Salem. The service in the restaurant & tavern was great & waitstaff very efficient & friendly. Smallish room with a view out front plus a very comfy king bed. Nice amenities in bathroom. Historic equates to small in most cases... More

I stayed in their smallest room and it was still wonderful. The provided toiletries were amazing and a brand that I plan to find for home. I've had experience with many pleasant staff but the staff of the Hawthorne raised the bar for accommodating their guests. We arrived very early, well before check-in time, we were allowed to park in... More

This was our longest stay during our 13-day holiday to the US North East. While this room was the smallest that we stayed in, with a tiny bathroom, it was perfect for our needs. The location was great for Salem attractions - we didn't drive hardly at all for the four nights/five days that we were in Salem. The bed... More

This heritage hotel has an older charm, we had a nicely appointed room, good amenities, and we tried their convenient on-site restaurants for lunch and breakfast. On site parking available. Easy walking distance to many shops and restaurants and beautiful park across the road. We enjoyed our stay.

My wife and I had our wedding reception/party at the Hawthorne and stayed the night in a two-room suite. The hotel has a lot of historic charm, the service was great and the room was very comfortable. Had dinner at the Tavern and breakfast the next morning at Sofia's. Food was excellent. Would definitely recommend the Hawthorne to anyone visiting... More

Our family spent a night in room 626. Got a quiet peaceful night of sleep. The room itself was a very nice size. The bathrooms and elevators will seem small too many visitors, but this is an older that appears to have been well maintained. The hotel staff was very friendly. The hotel is within walking distance of all attractions... More
