Don't come to Portal for a "wow" factor. Come for the friendly staff, hot showers, flush toilets, close proximity to RMNP, and electric and water hook-ups for an RV. We were gone most of the day exploring the park so it was really nice coming back to a campground with the amenities listed above. There are overhead wires, bumpy gravel... More

This camp ground is less than a 1/4 mile hike from the park. It sits on a hillside so large flat sites are few. The views from the camp office are magnificent. Views from sites further up have views blocked by trees There are ample nice sites for Rvs and trailers 20 ft or less. Units longer than 20 ft... More

I would highly recommend this campground. Bathrooms were super clean and well maintained - showers were free, and fairly good pressure and temperature. We had does and bucks walking through the campground often! We had sites A23 and A25 and were close the bathrooms, and backed up to woods. It was awesome. The staff was super friendly as well.

Upon driving up to this campground, you will be visually greeted by a huge garbage dumpster and a purple port-a-potty. If you are fortunate to get a campsite with a view of the mountains, it will be marred by a rickety swing set and mini climbing wall which serves as a small playground for children. These are the first cues... More

Campground is at the end of a road and boarders Rocky Mountain National Park (RMNP). At the edge of the campground you can easily access the hiking trails into the RMNP. With a 10 minute drive you can be at the main gate to the RMNP or in down town Estes Park. The camp ground is well treed and your... More

This was or first tent camping experience in many years. We found an Ozark pop-up 9x13 cabin tent and a Coleman queen blow up bed at WalMart and headed for Colorado. We booked ahead at Estes Park Campground and were met by Flo at the check-in desk. She could not have been more helpful and got us settled into a... More

We came here with some families from our church this past weekend. I had read reviews about it being on a mountain with slanted sites, so I wasn't sure what to expect. Camping is not a frequent activity for us either being new to CO, so my rating may be off not being a "professional camper". The tent sites are... More

Unless you're tent camping, sites are cramped and often difficult to get your rig in to. The road is not well maintained. Facilities are inadequate for the number of campers. The fee is relatively high, but does not translate into quality facilities. If you can get into a National Park campground, do it. At least, you'll get what you've paid... More

Pros: -Friendly staff -Friendly and pleasant campers -Hot showers and flush toilets (Flip flops will be wanted as its a rustic cement slab bathroom) -Campground is on a mountain - nice trees and wildlife Cons: -Campground is on a mountain - sites are on an incline, pay attention when you make reservations to the "driveway grade" at each site. We camped here with my 4 adults and 4 kids and 2 babies at A01 and we had an awesome time. The bathrooms were clean and easy to get to. The playground is very basic but the kids didn't care. They played there for hours each day between times that we spent doing other things nearby. We took the free... More
