I rented the Church to stay in with my niece and nephew for two nights, just last week. While the lady behind the counter (I believe her name was Jamie) was very pleasant; the manager displayed no care for the renters. I had reserved this venue; called to confirm the reservation, then checked in. At no time did ANYONE tell... More

This is a review only of the trail ride offered through Elkhorn Lodge. I must say, I think there is a LOT of room for improvement here. I heard that new owners bought the ranch just recently, so hopefully they will bring new energy to the place. Safety is the first thing they need to work on: the trail was... More

Authentic historic experience with very friendly staff ... Great fun for ghost tours and a fabulous way to get close to nature and experience some solitude! We go every year, at least a few times. Highly recommend the Elk Horn versus staying at an everyday hotel that doesn't have the distinct charisma that defines the Estes Park history.

Elkhorn Lodge and Ranch are frighteningly terrible! Learn from other's mistakes and RUN the other way! Just a few issues...dirty, unorganized, did not honor reservation made ahead of time, with documentation. Did not honor a Groupon. Staff at desk has no clue what is going on. Manager Miki is extremely unhelpful and unfriendly. As I was standing at the desk... More

This is a lodge built in the 1870's. I stayed there 3 times previously over the past 50 years. This was the worst experience. In the past the lodge offered a rustic place with a mountain experience. It appears that time has deteriorated the property and no effort was made to update or bring the facility up to standards. In... More

We had dinner at cheesy lees and then decided to walk around the elkhorn just to browse. I love the history of the place. Yes, it's old. It's supposed to be. It creaks when you walk. The dance hall with the springs under the bowed floor is fabulous. Go in there and jump up and down. The floor springs with... More

Sure, we read all the bad reviews but thought "How bad could it be...we like rustic, and besides we might end up with a good story". Let me start by saying I booked a cabin DIRECTLY through their website. When we arrived, I was told we were assigned a room in the historic hotel not Cabin C. I argued and... More

We are sorry to hear about your experience with us. The management company I work for took over on 6/12/14. I apologize there were issues with the plumbing for your friends. We do our best to maintain the lodge that opened in 1901. We invite you to stay with us again for one free night in the cabin you were... More

Definitely book directly. Book the room for the historic aspect and the view. The historic aspect is interesting and gives it character-just look for them and laugh it off. In our room the cold water was hot and the hot water was cold. There is no such thing as walking quietly around the room the wood floors announce it to... More

Do not book this hotel on Travelocity. I found out two weeks after I booked and four days before my trip that they would not be able to honor my reservation. I don't understand why I was allowed to book in the first place, but was really upset that they had my reservation for two whole weeks before they informed... More

We booked a room here two weeks prior to our visit to Estes Park, drove 5.5 hours from Alamosa to meet family, only to discover that our reservation would not be honored, since the hotel does not "do Expedia." Cindy, the desk manager, said that prior management, had used Expedia, but current management had been trying to get off the... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Elkhorn Lodge is the oldest continuous operating lodge in the Rocky Mountain region and is the most historical property in Estes park. Dating to 1874 when Reverend McCreary from Ft. Collins built a small summer cabin on what was to become the Elkhorn property, to today's struggles to save and restore this jewel of the West, the Elkhorn Lodge has been and continues to be a major part of Estes Park. With a fully functioning main lodge, cabins galore, and several spacious buildings for large parties, there's accommodations for any and all at the Elkhorn Lodge and Ranch. And Don't forget about the horseback riding! ... more   less
