Situated in a redwood forest, by the Smith River (where you can swim), inside one of the greatest parks in the US, with beautiful, well maintained campsites. Great Ranger programs with enthusiastic rangers. Most campers we met here have been coming every year for decades, and you can see why. We'll be joining them.

We really enjoyed staying here. It's a relatively small site in prime location so reserve well in advance if you want a good site. Most sites are pretty private with lots of shelter from the giant redwoods. Staff were really friendly. It's in a great location to explore the park. Bathrooms were clean and showers were hot and powerful and... More

We were only able to stay here one night and we are kicking ourselves for that. We got a site right next to the river (you must book in advance). Not only did we go swimming in the river, we walked the amazing trails. The bathrooms were very clean, but you did have to pay for the showers. We are... More

I've camped in many, many of the national parks and forests in the US, and this is by far the most beautiful, most well-kept campground I've ever visited. We stayed one night among the towering redwoods, just along a pristine river. Truly beautiful. The bathroom facilities are nicer than some hotels I've been in - single-occupant bathrooms, and private, HOT, pay... More

$35 for a tent campsite but it's worth it. Campsites are very large and private compared to other campgrounds. Bathrooms and showers are clean. Very pretty scenery all around you. Right next to Stout Grove where there are hundreds of the best redwoods I have ever seen!

We read great reviews for this campground and were so glad we stayed here. Unfortunately, we came for Memorial Day weekend and were only able to reserve one night here due to our last minute plans. Still, we were able to snag one of the prime spots. We stayed at site 56 but honestly, any of the sites backed up... More

Maybe one of the most spectacular places on the planet. The river is the only undammed river in all of California and is clear and refreshing to swim in. The trees are massive and I love the rain forest feel. Campground is always full so make reservations, but make reservations because you don't want to miss this place.

My pet peeve with JS campground is two-fold: first, $35/night for a tent seems pretty steep to me. Secondly, there was nothing in any of the literature I read beforehand to let me know the showers are coin-operated! This is 2014, and I'm sure I'm not alone in my propensity for leaving pocket change at home. I enjoyed the scenery,... More

As soon as we arrived a very cheerful lady checked us in and told us we had the best site on the campground - she was right. Site 52 was in a very wooded area but with a clearing to sit and view down to the river and trail a few steps away. The showers and toilets were some of... More
