Cleanliness was a major issue--dust and worse everywhere, except the bathrooms. Smoking is allowed in a central courtyard, and if your room overlooks it, you'll get smoke even if your window is closed--this despite signs that say no smoking within 25 feet. Staff are not responsive. TV is everywhere, and on at all hours. Security is non-existent; outside doors are... more

A bedbug free hostel. Me, a lady, coming into SLC for a winter job, I read the ownership had changed, so I took a chance at living in the historic Avenues district for the winter season. As the hostel being quite far from the ski resorts, there was room for me to stay for the entire winter season. The new... more

Booked on the phone. This is one scary, cold hostel. The staff for the most part is rude, hostile. My room was freezing, the kitchen was filthy, the evening desk person was downright unhelpful. There was only one working shower upstairs and there were over 20 plus people staying at the hostel. The tv was totally controlled by the staff... more

I have stayed here almost yearly for my Utah ski vacations since 1989. It used to be a great funky place with lots of international travelers from Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Europe, etc. Ownership changed and the place began to deteriorate slowly as time went on. There was a flea /bedbug issue for me a few years ago, but had... more

This is the last week of january 2008, and I had to stay here for a day.I've stayed in couple of hostels before... so lets go straight to the point: First of all seems like all the 3 bathrooms are under construction... one you cannot use the shower...Second of all, I'm not judging ppl, but seems like some weird ppl... more

I've stayed at tons of hostels over the years, in many countries, and I have to say this was the WORST place I've ever been to. We'd picked a private room, thinking it would be a little more quiet than a dorm. In the room was an old wobbly bunk bed with bare, soiled mattresses--the top mattress too big by... more

I've stayed in dozens of hostels over years of traveling, and this was by far the WORST experience of the lot. In one sentence: DO NOT stay here. If you want the long version of why, here goes: ** I'd reserved a private room, for one night, but was told upon arrival (at 9 p.m.) that no privates were available.... more

Well, you get what you pay for. Whilst attending a trade fair in SLC recently, I was attracted by the price of this well-regarded hostel (online, at any rate) - $20 for my own room, with bath - what's not to like? Well, I won't bore you with too many details, but this is, like, a 'Men's Hostel' - y'know,... more

I must say I had the very best experiance of any hostel in Salt Lake City. The Staff was very helpful, pleasant, and they go the extra mile to make you feel at home. I was kind of suprise when they told me that to get a blanket it would be $2.00 but when they gave me a comforter and... more

I did not actually stay at the Avenues but my experience with them is as follows. I made reservations to stay there but due to a change in my plans I was forced to cancel. I called the place and found out that their cancellation policies are different than those I got from the agency I made the reservation through.... more
