We stayed in the three bedroom house for one night and loved it! We were driving from Mount Cook, through Wanaka to Greymouth to catch the train and decided to split the drive up a bit by staying in Franz Joseph. So we booked last minute and were very happy when we saw our place. We had 5 adults and... More

We stayed in a motel room for two nights. It is nice and close to everything in franz however is nice and quiet in a forest environment. Lots of space around so been if the place is full I think it would still be quite peaceful. Staff super friendly and always willing to help. Shower has decent pressure however if... More

We stopped here before going to the helicopter trek trip to Franz Glacier. We spent a few relaxed days in our room which was comfortable. It was a much needed rest spot on our tour around the South Island plus Wellington. You can choose to do more if you feel the need.

What a great set up. I stayed in a motel room. Very spacious. Really Comfortable beds. TV not that you need it as the bar is awesome - happy hour specials, all you can eat pizza nights, games and prizes every night. Massive 25 person got tub.... The staff where real friendly and helpful. I had my own small kitchen... More

We stayed in the gheko house and wow, we were very impressed. 6 adults, 5 kids, loads of room and one of the best settings I've stayed at. Modern, clean, tv in each room, great showers, great layout. Very private and quiet, we didn't see or hear anyone else. The private spa pool right outside meant the disapointment at the... More

Nice clean place to stay with varying levels of clients. If you choose to stay here, and I probably would stay here again when I am in Franz Joseph, you really need to know what you are staying at. This is a pretty quirky place. It has everything from drive up pad for campers with hookups, to dormitories for young... More

Nice settings of Rainforest. The place is huge, plenty of ground to wander around. High pressure hot shower, there's a fat cat in backpackers kitchen, and 2 dogs around reception area, love the animals. Wifi was pretty slow though.

I loved it here. My only complaint is that the Monsoon bar did not have any vegan meals on offer. Prepare to starve if you are cruelty free. Nice how there is a free spa available and the hotpools are right across the road. The room was small but clean. The shower is strangely low, so be prepared to bend... More

The hostel is central to the beautiful town of Franz Joseph. The kitchen was massive with plenty of utensils and the resident fat ginger cat wandering around, which I loved! The hostel had a really good bar and restaurant with a great atmosphere- probably the best in town. One piece of advice would be to definitely opt for the more... More
