Our Punga Grove room was very spacious and quiet. What made our stay special was the friendliness and helpfulness of Bernie Asquith, the manager. She made the stop more rewarding. If your are visiting Franz Josef glacier I would recomment this hotel.

What a warm and cosy place to stay. We had the pleasure of spending two nights here. Staff went above and beyond for us as we were travelling with a 4 month old baby. Gave us a ground floor apartment so we weren't carting luggage etc up the stairs. Comfortable basic rooms, everything you could need for a lengthy stay.

We stayed at the Punga Grove while touring the South Island. The motel is ideally located, only a few minutes' walk from the town center. The reception staff Bernie was very nice and helpful, we got upgraded to the Kiwi Suite. The room was large and clean and had all the amenities that we needed, but it was rather basic.... More

Bernie greeted me, made sure I had everything I needed and took me to a large room with a patio in the rain forest. I loved hearing the birds right outside my back door while drinking the hot chocolate supplied in the room. She kind of watched out for me as I walked to various attractions nearby and asked a... We walked in as we were unhappy at the glow worm cottages up the road. Bernie was so friendly and had beds for us the following two nights. She even drove us to the bus stop two streets away as it was pouring down when we were leaving. Loved the spaciousness of our room. Wifi was great and free. Everything... More

We stayed three nights and loved it. An executive suite with a wonderful 'log' fire, gorgeous large comfy bed and beautiful deck looking straight into punga bush. Thanks for a fantastic stay. Our number one accommodation (so far) on south island. Thanks too to Bernie for alerting us to overnight road closure further south.

It is like a setting for a B rated movie - Room 1 - dingy, different coloured ceiling lights, cob web floating in the draft, lonely fly buzzing around, dribbling shower and for breakfast 2 slices of white bread, 2 pats of butter and jam - which had to be ordered before 6pm last night Bette Davis could appear any... We really enjoyed our two day stay at Punga Grove. The receptionist was extremely friendly and helpful. Our room was spacious, clean and with big windows. Big doors opened up to a lush balcony on a ground level. Our bed was large and comfy. There was a kitchenette area with plenty of utensils, pots, and pans for anyone wanting to... More

After a long long day we arrived at Punga Grove to the biggest welcome and excellent service. Our room was awesome.(executive suite). WOW. By far the best accomodation on the West Coast. We were an easy stroll to the restaurants and had a spa bath bath in the room on our return. Great way to finish the day after walking... More
