Our stay in the lodge was very comfortable. Everything is there so you can be self sufficient and the continental breakfast ingredients are delivered the evening before. Wifi is free but intermittent due to the location on the Island. The management are very helpful - explaining about attractions and what to do. It is a little way out of town,... More

This accommodation far exceeded our expectations from their web site. The majestic view and tranquil setting on check in took our breath away. The total panoramic view of the snow capped mountains has to be experienced to believe. The 2 bedroom chalet was far superior in space size and comfort than we expected. and hosts Mel & Nigel are a credit... More

Franz Alpine Retreat offers precisely what makes a stopover memorable. It embodies comfortable accommodation in an extremely well appointed suite in a self contained cabin format, with vistas over the local ranges that nearly take your breath away. It is a little way out of town (not very far) so you can almost feel the quietness. There is plenty of... More

Fantastic place to stay for a couple of nights. Our 2 bedroom apartment was clean, comfortable and spacious. The laundry facilities were great. The whole serenity of the place is a drawcard in itself. Away from the crowds. Could very easily stay here for a week or two. Our hosts, Mel and Nigel were extremely kind and helpful.

We stayed in one of the cottages with 2 bedrooms. The resort looks and feels pretty new. Its owners are very caring. Its away from all the noise and the shops, resturants etc. Couple of the times the owners dropped us at the town centre and the some of the resturants also offer pick up and drop services. So the... Thank you for your lovely review. We pride ourselves on the fact that even though we are slightly out of town, no one without a car should feel isolated as we will always make sure our guests do get to see the sights. The added benefit of the pick ups from the Restaurants is very handy for our guest. Enjoy... More

We stayed one quick night in one of their adorable little cottages. The rooms were very very clean, well maintained and well appointed. The only drawback is that because they are built off the ground there is a bit more residual noise (footsteps, etc). You will be happy you booked here.

Thank you for your review of our cottages. Sound proofing is one area we try to make time to remedy peak season but find the cottages are very for groups. We are glad you enjoyed your stay. Regards Mel & Nigel More

This is a really good place to explore the area from. The Retreat is out of the tourist busy-ness of the village - too many people. We really enjoyed our stay here. From the moment we arrived until we left we felt welcomed. The apartment is well equipped and spacious enough for a few nights. Highly recommended.

We enjoyed our three nights staying in a two bedroom chalet. Mel and Nigel were very friendly and helpful and they have a restful and relaxing retreat. The rooms were great and I enjoyed the comfy lounge and the view out of the lounge room window. This was the midway spot in our 3 week holiday and it was lovely... More

Franz Alpine Retreat is a good motel with comfortable rooms. It is a bit basic but clean and quiet. It a little way out of the town. The owners were helpful and pleasant. You have to provide your own breakfast but there are adequate kitchens.

Johann Straus would have loved it! In fact I think that the Franz Joseph Alpine Retreat might have suited the Viennese waltz king for its superb mountainous surroundings and the location not far from the equally famous Franz Joseph Glassier. The self-contained apartment bungalows that comprise this retreat turned out to be a real pleasure. Light and clean with nice... More
