We stayed for two nights. The cabins are fabulous, really clean and warm. The couple that run the retreat are super nice and gave us breakfast each morning and dvds to watch at night. I highly recommend a stay here but u will need a car as its about 5 or 10 mins drive from the township.

You need a car for this property but most people do. Modern, comfortable and every lounge with a view of the glacier!. Free WiFi a boon. You even get a complimentary continental breakfast tray each day. We will definitely come back.

First things first. This property is a 5 minute drive from the town of Franz Josef. If you don't have your own transport then this may not be the best property for you. But if you do this is a much nicer location than anything in town. So close you might as well be there, but far enough away that... More

Our family of four adults stayed in Franz Alpine Retreat for 2 nights in March. The chalet was very well-maintained, clean, spacious, and the surrounding mountains were breathtaking. Easy unloading and loading of luggage from the allocated parking lot right outside the chalet. David was very friendly and helpful, ready with information about the restaurants and convenience stores in Franz... More

My husband, adult son and I stayed 1 night in their "2 bedroom chalet". The unit was very new, modern and clean. Bedroom #1: king bed with inner spring mattress (OK), 2 night stands, a clock, no dresser, no closet and very limited space for any luggage. Bedroom #2: 2 twin beds, 1 bedside stand, clock, no closet, no dresser,... More

Thank you for your detailed review, I am sure future guests can appreciate the information. We do apologies again for the miscommunication of the type of towels you requested, happy it got sorted for you, there are however heated towel racks in all chalets located next to the sink. The laundry facilities are standard in New Zealand, the sign posted... More

We booked a chalet for a group of 4 of us over the long weekend. We got a bargain deal (worked out at $40 per person!) and couldn't believe our luck when we actually saw the place. True, it is not in the village itself, about a 5 minute drive, but since we were driving anywhere it didn't matter at... More

Stayed for 2 nights in March and was allocated with a nice view chalet. Jen is so accommodating and to the extend of helping my daughter to collect her skydiving thumb drive at the small town nearby. It was just amazing to have someone who is so helpful as her. Thanks a million. Will definitely stay again if we ever visit... More

Thank you for taking the time to write a review for us. It was lovely to have your family stay with us! Of course no worries about wanting to collect her photos, the pure joy in your daughters face before and after her skydive was worth it. I really hope the rest of your vacation was wonderful and have returned... More

It rained for most of our drive from Greymouth to Franz Josef, but that didn't spoil the drive. The highlight was arriving at our "cabin" at the Franz Alpine Retreat. Open plan living/dining/kitchen, two bedrooms (one double, two singles) and very cozy. Each unit is detached so you feel like you are on your own unit. You do need a... More

This place has a lot of space, ample kitchen, and laundry facilities. Jennifer was wonderful with helpful tips for the town - which is only 5 - 10 mins away. We bought breakfast supplies to add to the breakfast basket. A great place to stay away from the town and the noise of tourists, helicopters and enjoy the peace and... More

We stayed for two days in the Alpine Retreat - fab cabins (not very many - maybe 10 altogether?) with all facilities. We were very well looked after by the fantastic Jennifer - she is amazing and can't do enough to make your stay perfect - like having a 5 star hotel without the cost!!!
