We stayed in a 4 person dorm room and it was easily the poorest accommodation I experienced in New Zealand. Room felt very worn (especially the bedding). Bathrooms are very basic and did not feel very clean. The kitchen area is nice though, and the location is useful. No free wifi - very common in NZ- but the wifi you... More

There are those backpackers that feel like staying at somebody's home, cosy, clean and well kept. This is not one of them. We stayed here for one night at a twin room, and I was very relieved when we left in the morning. The kitchen was very dirty and almost all of the stoves were somehow broken. There were way... More

The staff is not very friendly or formerly in their way. The bikes are totally destroyed and you need to fix them. Te rooms were OK, although a pain to have to lock then with the keys. The laundry could be better but at least they do it for you after paying $6.

Two nights is about as long as you could spend here. It is not that the hostel is bad it is just that the town is literally a street. The receptionist was very laid back even when I set the fire alarm off accidently cooking sausages. The kitchen was quite large and clean and that level of cleanliness ran through... More

This is a basic backpackers, which means the facilities are adequate and will meet your needs. As other reviewers have mentioned, there's not a lot of choice available for backpackers - so it's a take what you can get situation. Beds were a little hard, shower a little weak and bathrooms basic. The location is very convenient.

Not much choice for backpackers in Fox, so perhaps why not a massive amount of effort seems to be made by owner here. You could definitely make a lot more of the place! Kitchen has everything you need and with the surrounding little tables/long table is probably the best spot. Rooms average, bathrooms/toilets pretty basic - I wasn't exactly looking... More

I stayed at Ivory Tower Lodge 2 nights . They have a big beautiful Kitchin . This is a very important thing to bagpakers. Many people enjoyed at this kitcin and common place. I also love the real fire place. I tryed Skydive next morning at Fox glacier. The Orner of Ivory Tower Lodge helped me going to this exciting... More

There's just one BBH at there you can't choose. Anyway, really BIG kitchen, relaxing and comfy, and nice hot spa pool! Narrow bunk bed but still comfy to sleep. Just one thing, cool staff. What is that so hard to put a smile on your face? Oh had I mentioned the toilet at the end of the hallway? It was... More

I must say, I did not enjoy my stay at the Ivory Tower Lodge. I had a stale greeting by the reception man who also offered me 'the local produce' meaning marijuana. Upon my sour first impression, he led me to the family room which smelt stale and the bed sheets looked like they hadn't been washed in weeks. Furthermore,... More

We arrived to Fox Glacier early in a non-powered campervan and decided to look over the 3 or so options available for parking and sleeping in the van. We had had quite a bit of success getting lower rates at hostels throughout NZ who are happy to let you park and use the facilities for a reasonable rate ($10-20 per... More
