This is a very basic motel and there aren't many other options for accommodation in the area. It had dated furnishings but was clean and fine for the one night I stayed there. IN this area, you aren;t going to spend much time in your room as the surroundings are far too beautiful to stay inside. I agree with some... more

I can not do better than agree with DeHeks review - you get what u pay for although i can understand some of the negative reviews. When we arrived i was not immediately impressed - however it is only a motel & it had everything we needed even if it was all a bit 60's. It really is only 5/600... more

I have stayed at Glacier Gateway Motel 6 times over the last 10 years, and I have never have a problem with the Motel or the Staff it rocks! If you staying the Township (500 metres over the bridge) you will pay twice as much for your accommodation so you simply get what you pay for! However Glacier Gateway is... more

With a view of the highway 5m from your room and decaying decor that would be perfect for a 70s horror film set i have no doubt that this is the worst and biggest ripoff place that i have ever stayed. This gives NZ a bad name and is basic profitering as accomodation in this region is scarce. more

The pictures looked so nice on the website and I had imagined views of the glacier. That was why we chose this motel, which was some walking distance from the town itself. We stayed at the Glacier Gateway Motor Lodge for one night in August. The unit was lovely and clean, and the staff were very friendly. Truck Stop is the only way to describe this awful motel in Franz Josef. The whole place looked like it was used more by contract constuction men than as a tourist motel. The motel is very near to the Franz Josef Glacier entrance road. Somehow, there is no glacier view from here. The room is nice and clean. The facilities are fine. The car park is beside the unit.
