We stayed here on our way up to Kaiteriteri and felt we had lucked into the perfect place. Merve and Shirley are the owners of this beautiful bed and breakfast. They are so friendly and welcoming, drinks and cookies with them on the deck upon our arrival, very nice! We stayed in the Riverside room, which was probably the master... More

Thanks for such a great review. We have a lot to live up to now; we always try to exceed expectations but with reviews like these, it pushes the bar ever higher!! Oh well - we've always tried to do our best for guests - we will continue to do so… And the 'Natural Flames' are still burning - book... More

When you are crossing the South Island from west to east (as we did) or from east to west don't miss a stop-over in Murchison Lodge. We enjoyed a relaxing and peaceful accomodation, lovely hosts and a great breakfast. Although we had initially only planned an overnight stay, Shirley and Merve convinced us to "have a look" at the "natural... More

We had our very first sighting of an elf yesterday!! A gentleman who came up with us works as a 'Santa's Helper' at Xmas - one of his elves. He was quite small in stature - and had a huge smile! Although we could not quite get him to sit on one of the mushrooms for a photo, it was... More

Made a last minute reservation here to break up our drive from The west coast of South Island to Abel Tasman park. What a gem, clean and up to date. Warm and inviting. We opted to have dinner there and it was also good. Highly recommend it. Wish we had time to stay an additional night.

We are well positioned to have a break on a long drive so we welcome tired drivers a lot! Many people tell us they wish they had stayed here two nights but they didn't realise Murchison had so much to offer. A newly enlivened promotions group in the town hopes to rectify that. but meanwhile, if you are into the... More

Thanks David. Riverside is used a lot for a total 're-pack' sometimes as it has so much floor space to spread everything out on! Happy you enjoyed your stay here. You are right - there are lots of things to do to keep you busy if you want to - or it is a great place to stay and do... More

We wanted to take the Lewis Pass route to Blenheim as we had not driven that one then needed to find somewhere to stay in an area where habitations are few and far between. We were not disappointed. We booked dinner as we were not sure what else there was in the area and shared it with a charming fellow... More

I can confirm the honesty bar was well used - am having to get emergency supplies up from Whisky Galore in Christchurch! Well, what does one expect from a couple of Scots and fellow guests who have a common interest in the aqua vitae?! Glad I went to bed! More

Just a bed & breakfast really, some way out of the town centre. The river view room was large, but the river view non existent as the river is 200m away. The lounge was ours for the night but there was no TV either in the lounge or in our room. My wife missed the large step in the bathroom... More

We are puzzled as to what has happened in the three months since your very positive comments in our visitors book - so I am not quite sure how to respond! Views are subjective of course but most guests love the views over the river to the mountains. (To reassure others, I have just checked and the river is still... More

My fiance and I stayed here based purely on the reviews and we were not dissapointed. Beautiful quiet location with all the the country charm you can muster. We wondered around the little farm with the lambs, piglets and chooks and dont forget Kali the dog. What people do not rave enough about is the food, Shirl cooks and makes... More

This time of year we can provide a lot of the food we serve from our own garden and which is a great start before we even start cooking! Piglets are growing fast, hay is in (a record number of bales!) and cow should be back soon from visiting her 'boyfriend' the bull! Thanks for the review... More

We stayed here for one night last week and were very bad guests arriving super late! Shirley and Merv were really welcoming though and even left us a wee night cap for when we got to the room. We slept like babies and enjoyed a really great breakfast in the morning. The room was charming and the lodge is really... More

Hey - not bad guests at all. We know that sometimes things happen that you have no control over - but you phoned and let us know you were going to be late which was fantastic. It meant that we could go to bed without worrying if you were ok. Sorry we didn't see much of you! More

My partner and I stop at the Murchison Lodge every time we drive up to Nelson, but this time was the first we tried the diner, and I have to say I regret not having asked for that option earlier. The food was divine, cooked to perfection, dessert was amazing, and as usual, Shirley and Merv were wonderful and thoughtful... More

Thanks for the review Maggie; Merci! it was good to see you again - with your family this time. So many people drive through Murchison without looking out the SIDE windows where the best views are, so miss out on discovering this lovely unspoilt area. We have a lot to live up to at dinner time next time you are... More
