Congratulations to our very welcoming hosts Merve and Shirley, yours is a B&B with a significant difference. Thank you for your personal attention to every detail and your very thoughtful hospitality made us feel so comfortable, we didn't want to leave! We thoroughly enjoyed all that was on offer at Murchison Lodge and sooooo miss the freshly home grown &... More

4 friends stayed at this wonderful place 2 nights. Can't say enough good things about the rooms, the location, the people. The feeling you get from the Lodge is of being far out in the country and away from other people, but the location is actually tucked away in the trees at the edge of town. Consequently, even those of... More

Lovely timber building. Very well appointed. Private setting with walk down to the river. Delicious supper and breakfast, much of it home produced. Liked the way we were allowed privacy. Super lounge, patios and outdoor seating.

Yes, living across the driveway from the lodge gives both guests and ourselves privacy. The swim spot in the river this summer has been well used due to the hot weather. Thanks for the review. More

We stopped at Murchisson lodge on our way to Abel Tasman. It was a great place to stay and very relaxing. Merve greeted us with a cool drink and chatted through what to do nearby. The room was spacious with a comfy bed and very quiet. There was a guest lounge area where we chatted to other guests. The house... More

We were getting used to 35 degree days when we suddenly had a southerly across the country and had to have the log burner on! That's NZ weather for you - but hope to get those iced teas going again soon though... Thanks for the review Anneplusone. More

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. Merve and Shirley were the best hosts ever. We could borrow their mountain bikes for free, they made us feel at home from the moment we arrived. We chose to have dinner at the lodge and were so happy we did. Home cooked dinner at it's best, even the desert was baked fresh. Breakfast... More

Yes, our other bicycles were hybrids and have just about worn out so it's the mountain bikes now! Now it's summer the garden is producing well but we have to remember to water the veggies! It's a common theme - everyone wishes they had spent an extra day or two in this area as it has it most things that... More

Our three weeks motorbike holiday through New Zealand we had planned with the assistance of Tripadviser. We picked our daily distances what we wanted to drive and choose a place to sleep or a restaurant via the reviews of Tripadviser. The eight night on the South Island we had chosen Murchison Lodge at Murchison. This was to our opinion just... More

Thanks for taking the time to review us. We are sad that we didn't live up to your expectations. All the other guests on Boxing Day seemed to enjoy the meal and breakfast so we are unsure as to what we could have done differently. More

There are some very detailed reviews here, which already say everything I would want to say about the gracious hospitality of Merve and Shirley, the excellent food they cook (if you are interested), the cosy and comfortable house, the beautiful garden and interesting farm animals. All I will add is that we were 3 adults and 4 children (6,8,10,12) and... More

To clear up any confusion for potential guests - we normally only accept families if they book the whole lodge. Energetic children are not normally conducive to a relaxing atmosphere for other guests! In this case, an agent made the booking and we were unaware of the ages of the children. Having said that, it was a pleasure to have... More

my girlfriend and I stayed at the Murchison lodge in December 2014, and absolutely loved it! Shirley & Merve (hosts) go far beyond the ordinary expectations of a B&B to provide a truly warm homely stay; they could not have done more. Our stay at Murchison Lodge was one of our highlights from our trip to NZ! Highly recommend. We... More

We loved our stay in Murchison--and Murchison Lodge was the perfect place to stop on the long drive south to the West Coast. The house was so cozy with a lovely lounge area and a very nice room--the hosts even left us cookies and homemade liquor to try which was a nice treat. Loved that our room had a private... More

Yes, although we are a good stop over point, our area is becoming popular as a destination in itself as there is plenty to do. Rafting, fishing, biking, walking - and of course the popular 'Natural Flames Experience'. Thanks for your review. More

For travellers to New Zealand it can be difficult to choose which of the many spectacular places to visit. If you are travelling around the South Island, one splendid spot to stop is the Murchison Lodge. Hosts Shirley and Merve take extraordinary steps to make your stay comfortable. It was quite fortuitous that we happened to find ourselves in Murchison.... More

Wow Nix-on-the-road! Thanks for the time and effort you have spent reviewing the lodge. It's true that there are so many places that are amazing in New Zealand it can be hard to choose. But like you found - the smaller ones have no crowds and are still 'unspoilt'. And yes - our population is 502 - very well guessed!... More
