We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Chateau even though the weather was horrible. We were lucky enough to glimpse one of the smaller volcanoes on our arrival however that was the last as the fog and rain rolled in not long after our arrival. We stayed for 2 nights in a premium room which included breakfast. We had a... more

This is a hotel with "history" in a fantastic location (IF the weather is cooperative). My room was just average. Food was fine but not memorable. Was only here for one night so didn't check out anything else. Don't know the alternatives so cannot compare but suspect this is the best available. I've been here-done that so won't return, but... more

We've just come back from a weekend at the Chateau. We'd stayed before in Winter a few years ago and enjoyed it, so booked the wotif.com deal of one night in a premium room and breakfast for two for NZ$195 . Even though we'd been before I was concerned reading some of these negative reviews. Fortunately our stay exceeded all... more

Our experience at at the Bayview Chateau Tongariro was quite disappointing. The basic problem is that service is well below standard for a four star hotel like this, and staff are nowhere near as friendly as the majority of other similar standard Hotels we have stayed at in NZ (Millenium Hotel in Taupo and Hilton Hotel in Auckland). Right from... more

After an initial problem finding a parking space (there was a big wedding going on), we were delighted to hear that we had been upgraded (ruby wedding) to a suite. Our accommodation was enormous, with a jacuzzi in the huge bathroom. Decor was very modern - stylish and sophisticated. The lounge, bar and main restaurant were all more traditional, though... more

We stayed at the Chateau for one night as part of our travels through North island. It's location is unrivalled and is worth stating at simply for this fact. We were welcomed on arrival and found the staff in all areas of the hotel to be courteous and helpful. Our room was in the new wing with lovely decor, bed... more

The place looks amazing on arrival. Reception were very welcoming and upgraded us as it was our honeymoon. We were shown to our room which was large and had a great bathroom with a jacquzzi bath. The bar/ lounge was fantastic. Really grand and traditional for the age it was built. The fire was amazing and the bar staff friendly.... more

We chose the Bayview Chateau because of its stunning location at the foot of the mountains in Tongariro National Park. My first impression of my room was not good - I had booked a superior room in the new Tongariro Wing but the room we were given was a small pokey, old-fashioned hotel room. Luckily I had the email print-out... more

Our friends booked us in the hotel for one night in the middle of our honeymoon whilst touring around New Zealand in a camper van. The drive up to the hotel is spectacular and the scenery and mountain views are stunning. Unfortunately when we arrived at the check in desk we were informed our room was not ready and had... more

My partner and I stayed here for 2 nights during the ski season. This is the closest you can stay to the Whakapapa ski area and a 10-15 minute car or shuttle bus journey will have you directly on the ski field. The Chateau was built in the 1920's and has been refurbished sympathetically. We booked the cheapest room available... more
