You wouldn't expect this place to be as nice as it is when you drive up to it. It's just off the main road from Puerto Lopez to Montañita and doesn't look like much from outside. Once you go in, however, the grounds are lovely with trees, grass and flowers with cabins around the central area and small swimming pool.... More

The pool is gorgeous, its the perfect temperature and very clean and well maintained! The beach is gorgeous with plenty of beach chairs and hammocks with nice overhangs to protect from the sun. The grounds are impeccably maintained and very relaxing. The rooms could use a little updating, but for a beach hostel not too bad. Service was okay, it's... More

Traveling with my wife and brother in law thru La ruta del sol, and we were looking for a hostel, went to a few in Ayampe. Although the Ayampe hostels were very nice, the ones we looked at lacked AC. We needed AC bc we were also traveling woth our 5month old baby. We found exactly what we were looking... More

We decided to go whale watching and found this beach hotel located between Las Tunas and Puerto Rico. Loved the peaceful atmosphere, friendly welcoming service and easy access to walk the beach. We tried the restaurant, was good for breakfast but for lunch and dinner we went to Isla Salango - Pelicano and Carmitas, and Casa_Vecchia_Ristorante_Pizzeria in Puerto_Lopez (restaurant sign... Overall, I'd say that our trip was fun- but that was because of the people we were with, not the staff. We booked a trip of expats (there were 21 of us) which shouldn't have been a problem because the hotel can fit something like 40 or so. They sent two vans to the airport to get us- only two.... More

My husband and I were thrilled with the gardens and the setting on the beach...the owner has spent lots of money and time working on the beautiful details of this place...but the staff doesn't get the big picture. They not only spoke no English, they didn't try to understand our Spanish that has worked all over Ecuador. They didn't clean... More

This was a really nice place as we wanted to relax a bit after cruising through the country, and when we arrived at the airport the driver was already waiting for us -first time in ecuador that we didn't have to wait. When we entered it seemed all very nice however the room, wich was a more expensive one, was... More

We stayed here for 4 nights for part of our honeymoon. We didn't realise that the room we had booked was very basic so we immediately asked if we could upgrade and was much happier when we saw the cabin we would be staying in. It was lovely and had its own hammock hanging in the porch. The beach is... More

Getting through the high wall takes some effort to get yourself noticed, but once in, you're in a walled block that is safe for kids...and filled with kids. The children of the owner and staff are running free, in the pool, etc, so if being around little kids is your thing, this is the place for you. The high wall... More

What is happening to La Barquita? We passed by a couple of days ago during low season (Oct 2012) because we wanted to spend a night there. The place looked closed and there were no guests. Finally someone opened the door and gave us a tour to see the rooms. Apparently the prices have recently gone up: 62$ for a... More
