The Lodge is a mix of luxury and simplicity, of quality and purity. Perfectly built within a green and wild piece of land. It has the most original entrance you can imagine and gives you a good feel of the adventure that is waiting for you. If you don't mind a variety of bugs in your room, then this is... More

From the moment you arrive over the pulley bridge you know you are somewhere special. The welcome from Jon and Cheryl (who were house-sitting) made us feel immediately home, and it was exactly what you want from an eco-lodge - good, home-cooked food, largely from the gardens. Compared to the next lodge which stayed in, to which 'eco' seemed a... More

My wife and I were given the gift of 3 nights at El Monte for our 50th wedding anniversary. We had been to El Monte before and always enjoyed the relaxing natural environment and low-key spirit of the place. However Marcia decided that to really celebrate our anniversary we needed to go innertubing down Mindo River. I wasn't so enthusiastic... More

My husband and naturalist came for the activities. I came for rest and relaxation. We each got what we came for and MORE. You begin by crossing a stream on a seat hanging from a rope pulley system. I never felt a bit unsafe and the ride is only about 1 minute if that. unless you signal you would like... More

Was at El Monte Lodge for 2 night's in August. The accomodations were great, staff was friendly and helpful and the food was delicious!! Mike in particular was wonderful in helping us plan activities (butterfly farm, tubing, chocolate factory, nature hikes).

El Monte is a beautiful place. I visited for several days last July- sorry for taking so long to write this. This is a very ecologically responsable lodge and the grounds are beautifully maintained. The food is mostly vegetarian and delicious- even for meat eaters! Make sure you get the hot chocolate, which is the best I've ever had! My... More

We had an all too short two night stay at El Monte but we wouldn't have missed it for the world. From the unique pulley seat river crossing to get in to the beautifully designed buildings and really delicious food to the knowledgeable cloud forest guide Natalia, we had a fantastic time. Mike was such a friendly and relaxed host... More

Less than 2 hours from Quito by car, you arrive straight in a secluded paradise. You enter the lodge territory by crossing the river with a small private ‘tarabita’: a special entrance, which gives you a true hidden feeling. The main building with relaxation areas, fire pits, open kitchen and dining-area is truly amazing: the open design, wooden materials and... More

The lodge is nestled in the cloud forest and is reached by crossing a rushing river. There is no bridge. You are pulled in over the river on a cable seat. You are surrounded by the forest in complete peace and all you can hear is the sound of birds and the gushing river as it flows perpetually and crashes... More

Pros: Beautiful setting, wonderful host, amazing food, rooms are private cabanas that are luxurious with tons of space, bathtub has window to open and let nature in Cons: Toilet struggled to fully flush, water took a long time to fill bathtub but that's to be expected given the remote, isolated location you are enjoying. The lodge has a guide you... More
