My husband & I stayed at Rubby's for 3 nights. Norma is very friendly, speaks very good English and serves a good breakfast whenever you want it. We were here at low (rainy) season, so it was very quite, but also very wet & muddy. You need a flashlight to navigate around mud puddles when you walk back from town... More

Stayed 5 nights late October 2014 room #6. Wish it could have been longer! Best things about Rubby's: 1) Nice price $16. 2) Rooms look out over nice view with surprising amount of wildlife. 3) Located at far (south) end of main street 150 meters after pavement ends so close to town but around a bend in the road with... I stayed for 3 nights and really enjoyed the place. Nearly the whole house seems to be made of wood and I could wonderfully relax in the hammock right in front of my door with an unrestricted view into the valley. One evening I could even spot wild cuys in the meadow below. Norma definitely makes an effort to ensure... More

Norma, the landlady, was very friendly and helpful. Norma's children and dog gave the hostel a homely feel. Norma helped us organise a bird guide (Danny Jumbo) who was excellent. Breakfasts were provided for us a 0430, allowing us to make early start for birding. Try getting that in hotels several times the price. Our room on the top floor... More

Very enjoyable,  relaxing stay with great views. Stayed here for 4 nights. Hostal Rubby is a 5 minute walk to the town. We stayed in cabin number 4 which is on the top floor. We had a great unhindered view of the valley from the balcony, which allowed us to casually watch the birds and fire flies during our stay.... More

This hostal is in the last house on the main road going through the village, 5min out of the touristy center, next to nature :). Don't get irritated by the dusty road leading to it and the outer facade - the nice wooden cottages lie just behind and are very nice, with a great view on the forest, including hummingbirds... thks for take the time to do the review, now we are building the laundry place in order that this noise will be far away from cutomers, in 1 week we are going to ask our customers to do not go to rooms with shoes and this will do more quiet first floor of the cabins More

Very nice wooden rooms. Norma is extremely friendly, helpful and can arrange very good bird watching tours. Breakfast is included and good. Location is a 5min walk but very quiet. Room was 13-15 dollar per person. The view from balcony is magnificent. Lovely children and dog

Rubby Hostal is in a beautiful location with views over the cloud forest, but still only 5 mins walk to town. Norma is very welcoming and she has great connections in the birdwatching world - she organised a fantastic birdwatching tour with an incredible guide where we saw toucans, quetzals, tanagers, and lots more. The rooms are nothing fancy but... More

Thanks for your time to do this review, we love that your trip in Mindo was nice. We are happy because this week we had a Certificade from a Cleaning company that takes care about ants, bed bugs and other insects at hotels in order everything is perfect to our customers. More

The hostel is located just outside of the city center, but closer to the trailhead to see the waterfalls (and other outdoor activities). When you arrive, don't be turned off by the haphazard construction out front, the hostel is actually behind! The views of the cloud forest and hummingbirds from the rooms are spectacular or you can enjoy it all... More
