I really liked the place and the location. I was looking for nature and a noise free place to think and relax. The lodge is isolated, in the middle of the forest, perfect for people who come to observe birds or just to enjoy being surrounded by nature like me.(It´s a little chilly over here so come prepared) The service... This place is totally isolated. It costs 15 dollars 1-way to get there by cab. I had contacted the owner who said our car would be fine so we drove, but the road is so bad we had to park our car a kilometer away and carry all our bags in the rain down the mud to the hotel. We... More

We had a wonderful time at the Birdwatcher's House hostel. The views from the room and common area/dining room are spectacular and you can watch many different colorful hummingbirds at the feeders just outside the window at all times of day. The rooms are clean and pretty, the bed is comfortable (we slept really well) but there is no heat.... More

We stayed at birdwatcher's house hoping to be able to take some amateur photographs of birds in the middle of the cloudforest, and we weren't dissapointed. The best time to see birds around the lodge was early in the morning where there was plenty to spot and photograph. We also took a walk around the roads near to the lodge... More

This was my first birdwatching experience with a guide so I really didn't know what to expect. I was overall pleased with the amount of birds I saw but will stay at another lodge on my next trip. First of all my wife contacted Vinicio 2 days before our stay and he said that he was available and would pick... More

This is my first visit to Ecuador, the main reason I came here was to do some birdwatching. I brought my camera, binoculars and my birdbook. The guide, Vinicio, was said to have 32 years experience in birding. I could not wait for the trip. But it ended differently. I don't know how to say it, but it looked as... More

We would concur with a previous reviewer that Birdwatcher’s House is not recommended. As that reviewer stated, the lodging has moved out of Mindo, and is now located a $10+ taxi ride from Mindo, 5 km. from San Tadeo up a long cobbled/dirt road then 1 km. down a rocky road. The owner and bird guide, Vinicio Perez, does have... More

This hotel has now moved out of town about 40 minutes ($10-$15 cab ride) down a horrendously bumpy road. It's so far out you won't want to go back to Mindo very often/at all, so it's not a good base if you're trying to see things in Mindo. For the birders- I can't recommend it very highly. It's cold, there... More

A evry clean and immaculately presented hostel in a quiet part of Mindo. The host Vinicio is veru helpful and is a fund of knowledge on birds apart from his own superb photos which decorate the walls. His staff are very friendly and attentive. I would recommend the hostel for anyone with an interest in Natural History. Vinicio can organise... More
