The Orchard Street Manor is a stately home in a relatively quiet neighborhood not far from the attractions along Union Street and the waterfront. You can walk to town, to restaurants and museums or bring plenty of quarters for on street parking. Like the previous reviewer, my husband and I stayed in the Green room. It's large and lovely although... More

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback on your stay and for your comments on the satisfaction of our breakfasts. We really appreciate our guests’ reviews. We have found that one of the surprising pleasures of running a B&B is meeting people with whom we share a common link. To have met a friend of an ex-colleague is... More

We stayed in the Green room and really loved our bathroom and the big old clawfoot tub (better than a modern whirl pool). The room was nice, comfortable and full of interesting memorabiia and antique touches. And our hosts made for very interesting breakfast conversation and know so much about the history and culture of New Bedford.

We stayed at the Orchard Street Manor last year during the New Bedford Summerfest and enjoyed our stay very much, so much so that we rebooked for this year as soon as we could. The weather last year was oppressively hot and the festival is primarily held at several outdoor stages. Al and Suzanne were so concerned about their guests... More

We really love to welcome back guests. Their stay gives us a chance to catch up with each other since the last time that we met. This year provided far more pleasant opportunities to do so both at the B&B and at the Folk Festival than did last year’s oppressive heat ! We also enjoy hearing guests’ opinions about the... More

My wife and I have stayed at the Orchard Street Manor regularly for many years and have always had an excellent experience. The manor is uniquely decorated with personally collected items from our host's travels all over the world. He shares a wealty of information about the local area and continues to write about the history of this city. The... More

After fourteen years, we note with pride that we have attained special bonds of friendship built on sharing both joys and sorrows. We... More

BRIDES BEWARE. I planned my stay with my mom and 7 bridesmaids for the night before our wedding ONE YEAR IN ADVANCE. It seemed like a perfect spot to get ready with the moms and maids. The home was previously owned by a ship captain, and it fit perfectly in with my nautical themed wedding (we were getting married at... More

We appreciate that weddings are stressful occasions and that brides often let details slip. One issue on arrival was parking across the street from the B&B a few yards from a sign indicating no parking on that side of the street. A neighbor often reports such matters to the police. By having the cars moved into the yard, we saved... More

Cultured and educated hosts and an amazing house. We stayed only one night - wish we'd stayed longer to take in more of New Bedford and the local flavor. The room was wonderfully furnished and breakfast was outstanding. Thank you!

Many thanks for your kind words. Although it happens infrequently, we especially enjoy welcoming guests who come from places where we’ve lived – including Michigan. That happenstance provides the basis for some interesting breakfast conversations. We’d love to have you return for that second night to continue exchanging ideas. More

We were in New Bedford for a good friend's wedding at the Whaling Museum and didn't want to stay in something corporate like a Marriott in such an old and eclectic city. We actually checked TripAdvisor, and went with the number one rated B&B. We are very glad that we did. The house is old and creaky and beautiful. The... More

Thanks for writing in ! We love it when we can help folks who stay with us, when they come to New Bedford to share a memorable moment with friends or family, learn that this wonderful old city offers far more in the line of great restaurants, distinctive museums and unique shopping for antiques or foodstuffs. Blessed with a young... More

Al and Suzanne made our stay at their lovely B&B most enjoyable. The house is beautifully finished and the room most comfortable. We enjoyed exchanging travel stories with these very interesting people. How often can one experience family history in a place one has never been? Orchard Street Manor is loaded with history, beauty, eclectic art and two of the most enjoyable highly educated innkeepers one could ask for? But do we love B&B's because of the hosts or because the place if spotless, comfortable, quiet, safe? I suspect both and Orchard... More

What a wonderful visit we had when a guest’s family background intersected that of the house’s first owner! We traded historical information about captains of the same whaling ship and scions of whale oil manufacturers of old New Bedford. Great fun! Please do come back! More

We recently spent a night in New Bedford on our way from New York to Maine. My husband had been stationed in New Bedford when he was in the coast guard and wanted to visit, but had described it as a "rough town," so I was a bit dubious. My worries were quickly put to rest, both by the town... More
