This inn is a warren of halls, corners, and steps, but it is charming if you like old and quaint. The included breakfast can't be beat, and the staff will do all they can to serve every need. The riverside setting is beautiful.

The inn was very dated and under renovation. Our room was dingy and much in need of improvement. The breakfast was OK. The location in Liverpool was OK and adjacent to the river, but Liverpool itself was not worth seeing.

I had driven down from Halifax and had no reservations and was hoping to get a beach cabin. Unfortunately I hadn't really stocked up on food and there are very few places to shop. There were several available within a 20 mile area but I nixed that idea since I was unprepared. I parked downtown and booked The Privateer on... More

I'm not in the habit of criticizing but Trip Advisor has helped me so much in the past that I feel I must write this review. Don't stay on the second floor anywhere near room 116. It must be over the kitchen as we could see smoke rising outside our window. No problem, shut the window and turn on the... More

Dear Greg~ We are sorry to hear that you were so unhappy with your stay. Yes, 116 is over the kitchen and the steam from the kitchen does vent out from there. The exhaust fan is on the roof and this is what you heard. We had an issue with the belt and it has since been replaced. I have... More

The staff here are bored and indifferent for the most part. Don't let that ruin things for you. The rooms are nice, and the place feels historic. But the breakfast--oh my--that's the ticket. Delicious. Wonderfully presented and served properly.

We are so glad that you enjoyed your stay and your breakfast. Sounds like the 2 staff members that you encountered need some incentive to smile and be present in their positions. I apologize for this. We pride ourselves on friendly, warm staff who make everyone feel welcome and will want to return. This review has prompted a staff meeting... More

I have tried to contact the owner 4 times, and no one is returning my calls. I booked 2 rooms, one for myself and my children, one for my grandparents who are in their 80's and my grandfather walks with a cane. At the time of booking, I asked to be placed on the main floor. The employee said that... More

Dear MaryLou We take your comments very seriously and have had a staff meeting about your letter. We have 3 front desk staff and they all recall your reservation. Your grand parents were on the second floor because we have no rooms on the first floor with two beds. Joanne, Ley and Breanne are very kind to all of our... More

My boyfriend and I spent a weekend at this lovely Inn. The room was comfortable (great bed!), the meals (2 breakfasts and 1 dinner) were Amazing and the chocolate selection they sold was fantastic - hard to decide which to try! Most of all the staff were Wonderful! They were very accommodating, providing us with a cork screw, wine glasses... More

we paid $140 plus HST so $161 total for a mediocre room. the king bed was two pushed together and the overall decorating needed updating. There was no view. The grounds were beautiful but only 4 sad adirondack chairs were available for seating. the deck to get to the room was very decrepit. would not stay here again.

Dear Sanderc~ We are very sorry that you felt that your room ( including a farm to table breakfast) was not worth the $140 rate. I am puzzled by the comments that room needs updating. That room was completely renovated in 2014 from new wooden flooring, new walls with wainscoting, new king bed, mostly new furnishing ( those that are... More

We took a group of about 20 musicians here to watch a local band perform, which I might add was great with the audience participation factor. We enjoyed some excellent local seafood fare beforehand, and sampled some excellent local Nova Scotia wines and beers. It was a great night, the staff handled the absolutely packed venue with talent and aplomb.

When we arrived in the late afternoon, we were pleasantly surprised to find ourselves upgraded for no extra charge. And that was just the beginning of all the pleasant surprises this location offered. Though our view wasn't directly onto the river, just a quick peek around the corner gave us some fantastic views. The best view, however, was the room... More
