My teenage daughter and I wanted a "home base" for our Xmas week vacation in the SF Bay area. We also wanted lodging that was a bit above a motel experience and that is why we chose the Acqua Hotel. However, the Acqua is somewhere in-between -- not a motel, but not really a hotel either. The room size is... more

Pros: Cleanliness of room, staff friendliness and response to requests, room furnishings were comfortable as was the bed, view of lagoon. Cons: Freeway noise: all rooms are 100 feet from the 101 freeway and noise is deafening. Goes all night. Lots of motorcycles and big trucks. Bring ear plugs if your not a heavy sleeper. Lighting over sinks was not... more

This hotel is a gem. It is designed beautifully with an eye to function. No smelly carpet here. The cleanliness (which we always look for) is impecible. Steve, the manager, provided the best customer service we've recently experienced. It was refreshing after a few nights stay at very expensive, but poorly run hotels. We would choose to stay here if... more

I have stayed here many times and appreciate its good qualities. On the positive side, the hotel is well located (notwithstanding the freeway facing rooms), has professional and friendly service, and provides nice rooms/amenities for reasonable rates. If you get room facing the water, you also get a pristine view. (The freeway side rooms are problematic for reasons others have... more

I have stayed here a couple of times before a few years ago and enjoy the location, serene design and views - if the room faces the water. However, I noticed last week when I stayed for 2 nights that the place has not been looked after as much as one would expect and the rooms are a bit shabby... more

Acqua offers decent rates on their website, especially if you join the Joie De Vivre club, which is free to join. We were offered 25% off the going rate, so the room was only about $135, which is not bad for a decent hotel in Mill Valley. We chose Acqua primarily because they are pet friendly, and we were traveling... more

My husband and I stayed at Aqua for one night for a friends wedding in Stinson Beach. The hotel is nice but I wasn't impressed. The hotel was decorated nice but it truly looked like a converted Howard Johnson. They tried to pull off the Zen feeling but it really just looked a bit cheap. They upgraded us to a... more

I guess it depends on the room. Lobby is lovely. Room was a motel cell block, claustrophobically small, no lighting near desk, no place to plug in PC (except by crawling around under the desk), worn bedcovers and sheets, Traffic noise was intense. Only sign of higher end hotel were the bathrobes in the closet and decent toiletries. I checked... more

My partner and I decided to stay at the Acqua Hotel for one night since it was our anniversary. We live in the Bay Area and are familiar with the Joie de Vivre hotel chain in San Francisco. We enjoyed our stay and here are the details: * Found the best rate on the hotel website - $180 for a... more

This was a two night stay in a "JUNIOR Suite" with "Fireplace" The suite entry was dimly lit, the tiny entry room had uncomfortable furniture that was uninviting. The rooms were no better then an economy lodge, rather bare and unimpressive. We paid $218.00 per night after Christmas and nothing was complimentary. You even had to light the "Dura Flame... more
